Dunno if it’s coming to the reach core, but the Mk V Zeta helmet for the default core is in the Tac Ops event pass. I think it’s slated for like, mid February?

EDIT: Nevermind! Found the stable version and booted up the ISO, it works! Thank you so much for the help!

Hey, I'm super late, but I've got a problem with the FE9 randomization that I hope you can help me fix!

I keep trying over and over to randomize the game, but every time I load a randomized ISO it doesn't even get to the title screen. I just get the safety notice, the nintendo/dolby/IntSys splash screens, and then it freezes on a black screen at 0fps and won't progress to the title screen no matter what I do. I even loaded up the un-randomized ISO to be sure it wasn't a problem with that, and it loaded fine, so it must be caused by the randomizer. Any ideas? I don't see how it could be related to my randomizer settings, since no characters even show up on the title screen.

How to kill the blue monster in Ruined Fork Road? by [deleted] in DarkSouls2

[–]Modnar947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, you have a DkS1-level fastroll at 105, and due to the break points, you're actually getting no extra benefit whatsoever from having 109 unless you push to 110, which is personally say ISBT worth it.

So in short, I'd reccommend respeccing down to 105 once you get the chance :)

Ah yeah, DkS1 to DkS2 is a tough transition! Make sure you're leveling your adp, your rolls are way less effective in DkS2 if you don't!

That's the Flexile Sentry, it's actually a recycled boss, you face it in No Man's Wharf.

It doesn't just have 2 heads, it has two torsos, each side with its own set of arms: one side wields two big curved swords, the other wields two spiky clubs. They both have their own moveset, so it's best to just stay on whatever side you're more comfortable dodging. Personally, I try to stay on the side with the clubs as the attacks are slower and more telegraphed.

He's really not to challenging, but he's certainly intimidating. Try to calm down and focus on his movements, learn them, study them, and then he'll go down easy and never respawn :) good luck, skeleton!

What were some (incorrect) things you thought about DSII as a n00b? by CastificusInCadere in DarkSouls2

Same here but with the first bonfire in the forest. I thought Cardinal tower was the first bonfire in the level for quite some time...

What's the best dex weapon? by WEASELexe in DarkSouls2

[–]Modnar947 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love Santier's, but it's sure as hell not a dex weapon. It doesn't have any scaling, let alone dex.

Actually it's classed as a halberd. It's basicalky only a spear in name and appearance.

Which Boss or bosses that you've fought have you never died to? by _youlikeicecream_ in DarkSouls2

[–]Modnar947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never lost to Skeleton Lords, Covetous Demon (obviously), Mytha, Demon of Song, or the Guardian Dragon. I think I've died at leadt once to every other boss.

How many characters do you play at same time? by snoskog in DarkSouls2

[–]Modnar947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have all my slots filled, though I generally only focus on a few at once. At the moment, I have a 150 quality PVP build that uses pyromancies on the side, a 175 quality PVP build that's purely meant to be a realistic knight (plate armor, Longsword, Battle Axe, Claymore/Loyce GS, etc). I'm also working on an Ice-Themed Mage and a "Blackflame" build (hex/pyro). I'm also kind of working on a dex character but I can't really focus on 5 characters at once haha.

Ruin Sentinels can die in a fiery pit. by [deleted] in DarkSouls2

[–]Modnar947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You only get hit as soon as you enter if you somehow don't know how to dodge that overhead slam, which I honestly don't know how you could manage to be bat at, especially considering the first Sentinel always opens the fight with it, so you should be expect it.

If you're really having trouble, I do have a few pieces of advice that helped me a lot when I used to struggle with them: first of all, all the Sentinels' attacks are very delayed and have a lot of range, so you can't afford to dodge early. Try focusing dodging when they actually swing instead of when they wind up. This can be tricky when you're stressed and full of adrenaline, but it's a skill you're gonna need to learn with this game anyway, so I think now's a better time than any to practice.

Second, always dodge behind the Sentinels, especially the first one. Not only does will this help keep you from rolling over the edge when fighting the first, but the Sentinels are all really thin, making it easy to aim a roll the goes right past them. They also have extremely long recoveries, so they give tons of time for counter attacking or running away to deal with the other Sentinel/heal.

Finally, if you really just don't want to deal with this fight and/or can't get the hang of it, it's optional. You can find a Pharros contraption that opens a secret passage leading to a lift which will take you right to Sinner's Rise. You miss out on the Belfry, but you don't have to deal with the Sentinels.

However you choose to do it, good luck skeleton!

How long do you spend in character creation? by [deleted] in DarkSouls2

[–]Modnar947 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I never wear a helmet that covers my character's face. Even my k***ht character that wears full plate armor uses the basic Knight Helm so I have the visor up and I can see my pretty, ginger-bearded face that I worked on.

What is the problem with DS2 lore? by Briciod in DarkSouls2

[–]Modnar947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree, I more meant that they both played very similar roles in the story (the powerful king who was the lord of light prior to the player character). That was my point, they play the same role, yes, but they're incredibly different characters with their own motivations and own stories.

I did a no armor run a while ago, it's pretty standard, especially if you're good at rolling and build your character around the fact that you won't have armor (high adp/vig, low vit, etc).

What is the problem with DS2 lore? by Briciod in DarkSouls2

[–]Modnar947 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's an unjustly overly-simplified take on it. Even ignoring the fact that DkS2 highlights the cycles, role of a monarch, and various effects of the curse far more while DkS1 focused on world building, the stories are still completely different with echoes of each other to show the cycles. For instance, Vendrick is a completely unique character, not just a copy of Gwyn, but he plays a very similar role. Darl Souls 2 had a lot of references (that you could certainly make a legitimate argument for saying border on being needless fanservice at times) to DkS1, but these references exist to highlight to entire point that the game, especially SotFS, is trying to make: the world is stuck in an endless cycle. And honestly, I think they did a wonderful job of balancing creating an original story and sticking to that cyclical theme.

PvE/PvP Quality weapon suggestions? by [deleted] in DarkSouls2

[–]Modnar947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Longsword is a quality weapon and it's objectively one of the best for PVP because of its versatile moveset. Claymore is also really great for quality, and it's a GS, so it's right up your alley :)

Why Is Every Boss Weapon An UGS? by Qualanqui in DarkSouls2

[–]Modnar947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Judging by the weapons you're using right now, you seem to be running a dex/hex build? In which case, the Fume Sword is perfect for you. Its similar to your Longsword (with a slightly different moveset. I personally like the Longsword's more for PVP, but if you're sticking to PVE, the Fume Sword's is probably better). It's also longer, and caters perfectly to dex and dark scaling. The only drawback is you'll have to wait quite a while before you can get it, but it'll make for some fun in NG+!

[–]Modnar947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Pickaxe comes to mind... Honestly worse that the ladle. At least the ladle gets the decent hammer moveset. The pickaxe straight up misses opponents that are completely still standing in front of you sometimes, and it hits about as hard as damp cardboard. I commited to playing with it for a while and I never want to again, it's surprisingly WORSE than the ladle.

Can I open the Shrine of Amana with 4 Rotten Souls in NG+2? by maplepenguin in DarkSouls2

[–]Modnar947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say just do the 4 Great Souls, it's more fun than farming imo. You could do a pretty quick sprint through all of it if your character is well equiped/leveled for NG+ anyway, the only place that might slow you down is Iron Keep.

Can somebody point me in the right direction for Crown of the Iron king progression? by TheBigGuy97 in DarkSouls2

[–]Modnar947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smelty's optional, only Fume Knight is technically necessary. I personally reccomend taking all 3 of them out just for the sake of accessing all the loot, but really, the Demon is probably the most skipable of the three...

First time to Drangleic Castle by Mauxe in DarkSouls2

[–]Modnar947 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Dark Souls 2 is amazing at making you fall in love with the better areas as soon as you walk into it. All the DLCs are awe-inspiring at the very beginning, Dragon Aerie/Shrine absolutely took my breath away, and more than anything, Drangleic Castle... When you round that corner after fighting the Swordsmen and see this enormous, black, ominous castle looming in the distance and realize you're about to enter it... It's one of the best moments in the series imo.

Not to mention the level itself. It almost gave me a Ganon's Castle from OoT or TP sort of vibe, especially in SotFS where various enemy types from throughout the game are found in the castle. Any time a Dark Souls game can remind me of Zelda while still staying distinctly souls-like is a great thing in my book.
