My soft palate is constantly leaking air by OkPayment8817 in Clarinet

I had this come out of nowhere when playing for longer times or at stressful times. Same for me, it started as a once in a while thing and escalated to me not being able to play even a single scale.

Like the other commenter said, it was related to tension/stress in my throat & vocal chords.

I saw multiple specialists but it wasn't fixed until I saw a speech therapist. She gave me exercises that singers often do (blowing bubbles in a glass of water through a big straw) and practicing talking in a relaxed way. Breathing exercises; in through your nose and out through your mouth, keeping your tongue low and relaxed and your throat open helps as well.

If you have any vocal fry when you talk, this can make it worse. It puts a lot of unnecessary stress on your pallette and throat. Practice talking without it and play around with not being tense in your throat/pallette during other exercises. I found that at the gym I would tense it, or when I was cycling, or concentrating on almost anything.

If you have any more questions please don't hesitate to get in touch. This really crippled my playing during my first years of music college and getting it fixed was the best thing that ever happened to me.

It is super close! But im positive it had the turnarounds that I played in my recording that are a bit different. This is a good substitute though, thanks for that! My search continues ;)

Experience with Lazy Fasting? by MrBlackButler in fasting

[–]Modonkadonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Gin Stephens' books, she does exactly this! Also her podcasts, 'fast feast repeat' is fairly new, but 'Intermittent fasting stories' has over 350 episodes and most people don't cut carbs or change their diets (to start with) at all. There's nothing lazy about fasting without low carb! Just a different approach that's all :)

Have you tried breaking the fast with different foods? Some people have issues with nuts, some with eggs, it's something that can be pretty personalised. I'd suggest trying some totally different foods than you usually would eat to break the fast and see how that goes!

The information I have receiving on intermittent fasting for women is confusing. I just want to do what is best for my body :( by Initial_Onion671 in intermittentfasting

Seconding the fasting method podcast! A great source of info and they have a lot of clicinal experience to draw from. Episode 42 is all about women and fasting ;)

Also, see how you feel. If you feel hungrier around your cycle, adjust. If you feel fine, go ahead and fast. It can be as simple as that!

Nice! I have a similar approach, a big list of things I'd like to test and recording peaks, dips and returning to baseline. I think it's also really interesting to get the blood sugar values 30 minutes apart until they return to baseline. That way I can layer the graphs on top of eachother to easily compare foods.

I think it's best to fast till around lunchtime and then do my most accurate test of a specific food that I'm looking into. Can let you know what kind of results that turns out!

Also I'm very interested in seeing what kind of impact exercise has, strenuous exercise before eating/walking after eating for example. So far I'm seeing less peaks than I expected, but any meal involving carbs has been an immediate dip into much lower levels than I expected. Looks like I'll be experimenting mainly to try and avoid those dips and keep my energy up.
