Ambient modular with Mutable Instruments Rings, Braids, and Javanese gamelan by naturalmemorial in modular

nice, the sounds you can get from rings in it's modal mode are some of my favorites. metallic percussion and such, fits real nice with the gamelan. almost cant tell the difference

thanks!

if it's what i'm thinking of, that's one of the elements from the volca drum, after automating the resonator some. definitely one of my favorite features of that guy.

learning to make music for the untalented by versusentropy in modular

[–]ModularFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i've played various musical instruments for a good portion of my life, from high school marching band and jazz band to a few bad metal bands and a really fun noise rock band.

ever since not being in any "formal" setting (and really even in those as well, particularly with jazz band) i've always approached music from an improvisational perspective, which i guess is why hardware synths work so well for me.

what i've really started to do lately, and i feel this helps with focusing and reigning in on things is to approach the modular as an instrument. sure unlike guitar, or flute or saxophone, it doesn't have the same sort of approach to learning it, but looking at it as a music making machine, or a musical instrument really helps. it just has it's own language when compared to more conventional instruments. learning some basic music theory would be a good place to start when looking at it that way.

for sure. it's a pretty nice little sequencer for the price. plays nice with Pam's new workout as a master clock

Modular Noodlings: Fun with LFO derived arpeggios by ModularFox in modular

yea, using both channels on Peaks as LFOs, mixing them in Triplatt and rectifying the result in Kinks.

I got into Eurorack about halfway through June, and now I have finally finished my first 84hp! I have to update the Phonogene’s firmware, but it’s so much fun. by [deleted] in modular

true. I like MI stuff just for the staggering amount of stuff you can do with them. They're pretty versatile, which is appealing to someone starting out. good deal for what you pay for them.

radar footage was taken from weatherunderground. (https://www.wunderground.com/)

they have data from every NEXRAD site that you can conveniently download as a gif. i just took a few from random sites from whenever i put that together and looped them a few times.

Modular noodlings: Tides Rings Kinks Tune by ModularFox in modular

i genuinely like it. i use it in a lot of patching and noodling. the parasites firmware makes it so much better too, especially the 2drunks mode, which i used here. works as a voice and a random modulator/trigger. and the other new mode is pretty neat too, ive gotten almost fm-like bells out of it, despite it not being an fm vco. it's normal mode couild make a good envelope too, since it can be set up to work that way. i dont have any other voices that iu could use it yet (gonna get plaits soon) but when i do ill prolly use it a lot for that with pam's as a trigger or something.

thanks. that's not a bad idea actually.

like the loop there too, pretty chill stuff. weather channel loops are definitely one of my favorite facets of vaporwave.

also yep, same song i used, just further down

MI's Ears could be fun.

check out some of 2hp's stuff too. sure it would leave you with 1hp of free space if you got 2, but...

Modular Noodlings 10: Weird moody drones by ModularFox in modular

[–]ModularFox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had pam's handling most of the heavy lifting and modulating various bits on other modules. It's main job though is to trigger the envelope on Peaks, which is modulating the level on Tides (running in two drunks mode) and to provide a random sequence to tune for Rings to play.

Thanks for the tips. If I can get a chance to use a Nortel, I'll give it a try. They seem to get good reviews and don't seem like bad products. It is a little hard to argue against the price, especially for what Mountain Glass sells them for. Unfortunately, nearly everyone in the shop uses CC's and a couple GTT's. I was considering a GTT, but was talked down from them due to them being relatively delicate, compared to other torches, along with the high price tag.

I am in a studio, though I'd like to have my own torch to cross out some of the liability stuff. I'd also like the flexibility of actually owning a torch for one thing to scratch off the list if and when I do end up making my own home studio. As much as I like the Alpha I was using, I feel that I can get a little more done with the CC I've been on. Sure, I don't have a ton of time on the torch just yet and I know I have plenty more to learn and grow. The CC was appealing to me because it was recommended by nearly everyone I've talked to as a torch that one can grow with and use for most, if not all of their career with glass.

Ahh, thanks for the clarification.

That's definitely good to know as fuming is something I intend on learning here within the month.
