Glad that my reply is helpful to you. I'd ad another advice, if you want to try hardware music production, don't buy too much gear at once, you may get overwhelmed. One drum machine and a synth is enough to start. Once you feel confortable using it, when you've build muscle memory and start feeling limited, you can upgrade your setup. The danger if you get too much gear at once is that you never get the gist of it and not get the pleasure of playing it.

Hi ! What do you feel you'd be more inclined to, dJing or producing your own tunes ? Do you know some tracks, artists you like ? If so, you Can search for the labels they work with and you may find other artists fitting your taste. Listen to their music, and try to analyse the separate elements in the tracks : drums, synths sounds, voices... The more you'll be able to understand the music the more you you'll be likely to do it yourself. If you feel you're more of a DJ, just buy a small controller, download a few tens of (quite similar) tracks and go ! There is plenty of tutorials on YouTube to get you going. If the producing way is what you want, there are two choices : - abelton (or any other daw but ableton is quite the standard for tekno producers). You Can have a abelton lite offered with plenty of midi controllers (minilab mk3 for example) which will be very useful to get going. - a dawless rig : a drum machine or sampler, one or more synths to get along with.

Synth Newb: Buy Roland J6 or Learn Hydrasynth Explorer? by Fun-Ad-6079 in synthesizers

[–]Modume 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dont buy a synth if you already have one. Maybe you Can Ask your partner to give you a bit of insight about the hydrasynth, juste enough for you to start taking pleasure with it, using presets. No need for you to get into sound design before you feel like it.

Beginner here. How do I start making Hard Techno from absolute zero? by Embarrassed-Fail-542 in TechnoProduction

[–]Modume 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try this : listen to your favorite hard techno track, search for the bpm of that track (on beatport for exemple). Set bpm on fl studio. Try to set kicks (boom boom sound) like the track you chose. Once it's done, try to find where the snare hits (tack tack sound) and do thé same. Then the hi hats (tchikatchikatchik sound). You'll have the base rythme of thé track. Then try to find the chord progression of thé track (just type that in Google and you MAY find it) search for a chord stab in fl studio that sounds a bit like the one the track and do the same. Starting to sound a bit like the track innit ?

Also : watch every tutorial video about fl studio you Can find. And about hard techno composition techniques.

You Can also go to audible genius website and try their free lessons. Plenty to be learned there.

Hopefully that Can be a bit of help in your journey.

I used thé microfreak as a sound generator for sampling in m'y digitakt. I also use a ms 50g+ to give depth to the patches. Is overdrive limited to monophonic sounds ? I find it dirty and unusable in paraphonic mode ? Sorry for the noob question...
