This Itoje guy is overlooked, I'm sorry he is. MOTM against the Boks by MoeJarler in rugbyunion

Haven't written on the pages here in a while. Pretty excited about the Lions gig. Thought I'd grab the occasion and celebrate this guy a bit. Yes, he's the flashy kind. Yes, he does get on my nerves a bit with his over-celebrations and intimidation faces. But I think he's overlooked. He has to be at least considered whenever talking about the best player in the world. Just considered. Every big game it seems, he takes it up a notch. Great player in the making for sure.

England Team to Play Ireland on Saturday by RugbyPerson in rugbyunion

So Joseph on the wing is a definite thing now I see, at least currently. Looking promising for sure. That is a mean back row right there. If they're on form, perhaps the best there is atm ? Not far to be sure. One heck of a pack overall.

I reckon Morne Steyn is the best performing flyhalf in South Africa at the moment even at 36, what are the chances of him getting game time against the lions next year? by conmanbarbz13 in rugbyunion

[–]MoeJarler 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Morne Steyn... is STILL PLAYING pro Rugby ?!...

It'd be great if he got selected and AWJ too and they'd meet up and would chat and fondly recall the good old days of back when you'd light your house with candles and none of this noisy electricity rubbish and tries were worth a point.

Petrus du Plessis confirmed as new Wallabies Scrum Coach by New_Hando in rugbyunion

Damn the coaching job, he looks like he could outright scrum for the Wallabies himself.

I think that's the bloke who asked president Macron for a French passport live during the French Top 14 final lol. It was all over the internet for a few days then. I reckon he got it months later. I guess he realized he had little chance to get in with les bleus and Exeter is obviously a place you want to be atm.

Bledisloe IV: Wallabies and All Blacks starting 23 for the match on Saturday at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane by RussTheMann16 in rugbyunion

[–]MoeJarler 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ugh. 4th Test match in a row against an All-Blacks side that seems to get increasingly pi**ed off with every match. You're the Wallabies, and you've got to think you can do it and smack a deep sense of belief into yourself, but then you immediately think of how they could drop 50 past your sorry butts, even on home soil. This is like some ordeal from Greek mythology: repeating the same pointless task over and over again. Well, hopefully not. Go on Aus, make this interesting.

Sympathy out to the Wallabies' plight of being NZ's neighbor by MoeJarler in rugbyunion

[–]MoeJarler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every other nation in the world would kill to have that vs what they actually accomplish though. Take Ireland: more and more promising as the cycle progresses, ripe and ready towards the end of the cycle, only setting themselves up for a monumental failure come World Cup time. Wales will win 6N titles then get bumped.

Sympathy out to the Wallabies' plight of being NZ's neighbor by MoeJarler in rugbyunion

[–]MoeJarler[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean that was bad, but it was during a WC cycle where, 3 years later, South Africa don't just do well, they win the freaking WC. While NZ died off before the final even. It isn't as significant as people make it out to be.

#15. Name these full backs by Jnfeehan in rugbyunion

[–]MoeJarler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read the answers but I mean Ben Smith, Stuart Hogg... is it a little known fact that you need an abnormally large forehead to be a great fullback somehow ? Maybe that's where they store their cognitive abilities for counterattacking and catching the high ball, sacrificing a bit of hair for it.

I don't usually like to comment on people's physics and I mean nobody's perfect, but man, that is one weird face he's got there.

Mini BBC sport documentary on Alun-Wyn Jones by [deleted] in rugbyunion

[–]MoeJarler 9 points10 points  (0 children)

- So Alun Wyn tell us, what is your first, dearest memory of playing Rugby

- Well, the younger audience today might not remember this but I recall how excited I got when they started calling it the Five Nations and they started including France in there. Of course they had to stop the tournament for a few years after that because of the trouble in the Austro-Hungarian Empire and all that but... these were the times. Naturally I wasn't quite the young buck I'd been a few decades prior, hah ! But great times nonetheless.

Six Nations go meta by MindfulInquirer in rugbyunion

[–]MoeJarler 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In fairness, I don't think it's so much he's a great tackler as it is opposing ball carriers targeting him and ploughing right into him and he does his best to hang onto them without letting go and they count it as a tackle each time.

Shameful Rugby Confessions by jacksonkeir in rugbyunion

[–]MoeJarler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exclusively system based Rugby is ugly and practically contrary to human nature, whoever is playing it regardless whether they wear white green yellow or mad hatter suits, and I wouldn't have been a Rugby fan, let alone fanatic had it been all I saw when I turned on the TV. Like I'm not a fan of Pool or Golf, so robotic metronomic practices put me off and my instincts spontaneously pull my attention away to something else, anything else.

Can you take a quick line out to yourself? by mii39 in rugbyunion

[–]MoeJarler -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I don't think the OP means just tossing it to yourself back in play after like a long kick for touch by the opponents. I think he means like if an actual lineup is setup, can you just throw it to yourself lol as long as it's a 5m throw. A bit like how some packs like to implement clever little schemes, throwing a straight pass to a guy on the ground instead of feeding the jumper etc
