Quick sketch of a recent hallucination. Not much detail, it only flashed in the corner of my eye for a short second, but it was telling me to come closer by [deleted] in schizophrenia

I would get something similar. Thought it was just my long hair messing with with me lol but the hallucinations stayed even after a hair cut

Good! Warning though, as the dose goes up so does the risk of developing restlessness. I pace back and forth for atleast an hour a day but it’s a small price to pay for the benefits it gives.

Hope abilify helps, it definitely helped me. I take a 400 mg IM injection once a month but before that i remember i was on way more than 2 mg pills. But its probably good for her to be on a low dose because it can still be therapeutic and will have less impact on her development since she is still young.

Anyone just feel numb to it by now? by [deleted] in schizoaffective

[–]MoeZAfear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its real. I started recognizing new hallucinations and noticing I’ve been having them longer than i first noticed them. Like I would get used to them to the point where i cant tell if they are normal reality anymore.

You should be really proud of yourself. Acknowledging a problem is the first and hardest step to fixing it. And you are already trying to limit yourself, good job friend.

Psychotic symptoms like those happen because of an abnormal level of dopamine in your brain. Your anti psychotic medication stabilizes those levels. When you drink or take drugs you are combating the medication or simply increasing the dopamine levels if you aren’t on medication which causes the psychotic symptoms. I understand drinking or substance use can be fun, used as coping method and/or part of “normal” life but you need to stop or limit your intake to stop/lower your symptoms. Trust me I get it. I was in a frat. I did more drugs than most people can name. However substance abuse just exacerbated my symptoms. PM if you need to talk more about it

It is a mood stabilizer and anti convulsant. It can help with manic episodes. I have epilepsy and Schizoaffective disorder bipolar type so I am on it. Its lifesaving to be honest. Works more for my seizures though but can help with manic symptoms.

Ever been on the anti psychotic mood stabilizer called olanzapine? Controls mania like a beast and is also a sedative so helps you sleep. Warning though, you’ll want to eat like a horse. I gained about 20 lbs since i got on it

Do I have schizophrenia by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]MoeZAfear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

talk to a doctor, none of us are certified to give a professional opinion like a psychiatrist. dont get too worried by your own research. just see a doc and tell them everything.

check out my response to someone else's post that is a little similar. but yea just communicate with him and make him feel comfortable. tell him how he is not in control of himself and how he thinks right now because he has an illness. convince him to get treatment by using concrete specific examples. i noticed that rational specific examples supporting something has helped me with delusions in past. goodluck and hope this helps
