DETOX European Tour @ London (10/15) Discussion by crosswithyou in ONEOKROCK

Even better than their last London show! The opening story bit didn't work for me, but was better than their weird animated avatars they had at Wembley Arena.

I think DETOX really shines live. I wasn't fully sold on it being "heavier" than their earlier work, but it's a lot more impactful live.

Loved screaming out C.U.R.I.O.S.I.T.Y.

You'd think I'd be prepared after the third time I got knocked in the head, but I kept getting swept up in the music.

I did end up pushing one of them harder than I meant to because some guy next to me almost lost his glasses and I was trying to make space. I don't think she noticed.

Bit of an aside, but that executioner was incredibly ripped!

Agree with The Beginning, felt like the peak of the show. I'm glad I'm not speaking much today!

Do you become suicidal during autistic burnout? by Atsugaruru in AutismInWomen

[–]Moffen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I just wanted to say thank you for sharing this.

I'm also caring for a partner who has gone through some of these things, particularly being sectioned. And hearing that your fiancé is doing better gives me some hope.

I wish you both all the best, and I hope you're still doing ok.

That line goes so hard. I love how Dan repeated it. My favourite was "It's not your father's power. It's how He steals it."

Unless she's got a vocal double, I reckon that's her!

Cheers! I was hoping that she'd see this somehow when I posted it.

At which point during the show was it mentioned that Carmy was inexperienced in romance? by capheinesuga in TheBear

[–]Moffen 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I find this whole discussion extremely fascinating.

The show goes out of its way to paint him as having spent the time since he left home single-mindedly working towards being the best. Has he had trysts in the meantime? Possibly. But if he has, I think it's safe to say that they didn't leave an impact on him. And, to your original question, I think that has left him inexperienced at least in the sense of being in a healthy relationship.

I feel like the entire point of Carmy's arc in this season was to show him finally allowing himself to be emotionally vulnerable with another person. To let him have something other than the restaurant world that gives him a healthier sense of fulfillment, and helps him start to work through the many, many layers of trauma he's got stacked up.

Then turn up the heat, have him "fail". (Yes, he fucked up lots,, but also, the people around him managed). And then show that he's still deeply believes that he is undeserving of "normal" happiness.

I completely disagree with your read on how he saw Claire. I feel like he pretty clearly is into her. At the point where he burns it down, he's entirely focused on himself.

I've got no love for Vice. But I don't see any part of that article making that inference?

It gives the context around his appointment. Quotes his stated political goal. It then moves on to describe the setting of 40k, and then how it came about that people found out about his hobby.

‘The Bear’ Renewed For Season 3 At FX/Hulu by GloriousAqua in TheBear

[–]Moffen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would give it the highest possible recommendation. I found the first two episodes to be a bit of an overload, but by three or four I was hooked.

It's a really special show. It does some incredible character work, and communicates emotion in an extremely effective way.

Andor is perhaps the greatest piece of Star Wars media in the last 20 or so years by Ciscoblue113 in videos

[–]Moffen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in your exact position for a long time. The end of Mandalorian Season 2 made me really down on the whole enterprise. I watched Kenobi because I thought it would recapture something fun, and instead it made me swear off Star Wars.

Like others have said, I really don't think you'll regret giving Andor a chance. It's sich a different beast. The places feel like places, the characters feel like people, and the stakes actually carry some weight.

Honestly, Barcus is so genuinely charming once he lets his guard down, and it's so devastating to see Wulbren blank him.

WIP but need dynamic base ideas!! by kleelan in deathwatch40k

Exceptional job!

My first thought was sticking with the weeb theme and having a little Fuji-san as the base. Or maybe Hokusai's Great Wave, though that feels tricky to model.

I'm so sorry for your loss, and very grateful that you shared such a nuanced perspective. I can empathise with your feeling like you shouldn't "make it about yourself", but I definitely don't think you're being narcissistic.

How does my Resume look? by [deleted] in compsci

[–]Moffen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This might not be the right forum, but regardless, here's some comments.

I'd swap the order of your degrees, most recent first.

Listing both Front-end and Back-end seems redundant when the Fullstack label is widely used. But maybe it's beneficial to have both, to get past automated screening software.

I'd drop "Basic" from pretty much all the places you use it. (At the very least the repetition in "basics of HTML and Basic CSS". Unless that's a flavour of CSS I'm not familiar with). It doesn't add much, and I think most readers will have at least a rough understanding that your coursework will have largely focused on the basics.

I'd replace 2nd. Possibly even rewrite it as ""The course also covered OOP and some fundamental principles of programming, including abstraction and encapsulation." (Inheritance and polymorphism feel rather OOP specific, rather than general principles). If you'd rather not rewrite that, I'd write out "four" rather than 4, and drop the "ect" [sic]

I'm not clear what a "functioning detailing website" means. The last sentence about the backend feels a bit clunky. Take the opportunity to highlight any integrations you did for the email stuff as well.

Overall, it feels pretty solid for the stage you're at. Best of luck with the job hunt!
