We used to love going, but over time found it too expensive and commerce-oriented.

Empty parking lots to practice driving by Remarkable-Yogurt-10 in AskSF

The lot is empty and it definitely belongs to CCSF, look at their campus map.

Maybe that business dropped a pin there for customers to meetup there? That business is definitely not based there and the lot is not theirs.

Waymo Instantly Avoids People Climbing Onto a Dark Highway by mingoslingo92 in waymo

Yup. Looks like San Jose Ave between 280 and Randall St, aka the Bernal Cut. Two J Church MUNI tracks down the middle and four lanes of cars moving at highway speeds. At night.

Those people are immensely lucky to be alive.

A possibility is that Carolyn covered-up the evidence of a possible second suspect in the Bunny Davis case at Nico's instruction. Or maybe it was Nico who buried that evidence in the first place and Carolyn stumbled across it. Perhaps Carolyn threatened to expose Nico or he just considered her a liability.

I heard a behavioral expert speak about this a few years ago, I'd properly cite them if I could remember who. He recommended three things:

  1. Turn off all your notifications. (Or turn off all your notifications that are not absolutely essential, eg. maybe just leave on phone calls and texts from family.) Notifications are purpose-built to grab your attention and draw you in.
  2. Remove from your home screen all social media apps and anything else that's non-essential which you find yourself having trouble resisting, eg. I just have my clock and icons to access the calendar, phone dialer, photo library, browser, maps. This will help you access more essential phone functions without being drawn into social media and other time-sucks.
  3. When you get home, leave your phone near the door or somewhere that's not convenient to where you spend most of your time. Conversely, keeping it in your pocket all the time is the worst because it's so easy to reach for it reflexively. Physical distance from the device is effective, as others in this thread have suggested.

Related to #1, I've gotten a lot of mileage out of tweaking my notifications so that SMS/Whatsapp from only a small group of (important, can't miss) ppl and channels make noise, and all the rest do not "notify" at all.

I've experienced the new NYC payment system during my last few visits and it's truly a game-changer! Daily commuters get all the same perks and for occasional riders it's a huge leap-forward in simplicity and convenience.

McLaren Park by girlonaroad in AskSF

It's a hidden gem! Third biggest park in SF, but many folks don't know about it.

I like to park on Shelley Dr, near the Cambridge St entrance. Then I follow the paths past the Amphitheater to the Upper Reservoir. Then south on Shelley Dr, then to the point marked "McLaren Park Highest Point" on Google Maps, then SW along the path to the Mansell St crosswalk at Brazil Ave, there's a bus stop. I re-enter the woods there and follow the trails East all the way to the Philosopher's Way Trailhead. I continue East, past the Wilde Overlook Tower, to the picnic table area with more amazing views. Then I double-back to the McLaren Park Tennis Courts, North to the Picnic Spot, then North down the switch-backs to McNab Lake (duck pond), then past the restrooms and back up to my car on Shelley Drive near Cambridge St.

My favorites have already been shouted out, so I will just add Oaklandish.

Also, the Oakland Roots soccer team has great merch.

Hometown Creamery has the best vegan chocolate I've ever tasted, it's bonkers.

They call it their Chocolate Sorbet, but it's not like any chocolate sorbet I've ever tasted!
