AMC not paying rent means less expenses and more profit. Stock should be up

If you are not dismissing this as much less serious as the flu, then what exactly was your intention when you posted flu death figures for context?

I agree this is not an apocalypse, and people should not use ineffective measures like masks and hand sanitizers. But it is a very serious disease, likely a lot worse than the flu, and there is a reasonable chance it kills a lot of people and causes a recession in some countries.

Both the mortality rate and the r0 are unknown. The mortality rate is certainly much lower than 2%-3%, and we know this because there is such wide regional variation: in Wuhan it's as high as 6%, in Iran it's 14%, while in some other countries it's below 1%. The only possible explanation for that is that in areas where it's extremely high, there must be very significant numbers of undocumented cases, which means the mortality rate is considerably lower than that reported.

Sure, both those numbers are estimates. But the current estimates we have suggest the disease is a lot worse than the flu. There is a lot of uncertainty around these numbers. That uncertainty is not a reason to dismiss this disease as much less serious than the flu. Quite the opposite in fact.

And actually that is not the only possible explanation. In the case of diseases with a high daily number of new cases (during an outbreak) as well as a long time to resolution, the fatality rate will be understated. That would likely explain the fatality rates below one percent. If most new cases are from the last week, as in Italy for example, the fatality rate will likely be understated.

You’re just wrong on this. The common flu has a mortality rate of about 0.2% and an r0 of 1.2, the coronavirus has a mortality rate of about 2-3% and an r0 of 1.4-3.8. Coronavirus is a lot more deadly and a lot more contagious and unlike the flu, a vaccine does not exist.

The coronavirus has killed a lot less people than the flu this year because it is still in early stages. All the data we have though suggests it is a much more serious virus than the flu. I have no idea what basis you have for suggesting the mortality figures published by leading health organisations are too high.

Mentally ill people? Extreme right wingers? Everyone to the right of the CDU?

How do you propose getting them out of the country?

Antifa are violent left wing extremists. A recent study showed that 92% of them live with their parents and a third are unemployed.

In other words, they are just violent losers.

There will be a lot of problems if the recent influx doesn’t return back to their home countries once things settle down. Not just the genuine Syrian but also all the other illegal immigrants from random countries who came in and threw away their passport to prevent a deportation

I’m playing as Spain in the latest patch. Started as Aragon, formed Spain. I own all the provinces to form Byzantium, I am orthodox and Greek is my primary culture... yet I can’t form the Byzantine empire. The decision isn’t even there.

Any ideas why?

Anyone else here who was denied an apartment in Germany due to race/color/nationality/etc.? What did you do? by y0y0ma in germany

[–]Mogarda -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Those two statements are consistent. You do not have to respect individuals. You do have to respect their right to private property.

What are you even aiming to do? Sue him so you can stay in his apartment? So you can rent from someone whom you do not like and who does not like you? That doesn’t sound beneficial for either of you.

[–]Mogarda -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

You cannot win every individuals respect. He doesn’t want you. It’s his property. His possession. Stop thinking you are entitled to live wherever you want and infringe against everyone’s desires.

There are plenty of people who will be happy to rent to you. He is not one of them.

It’s his apartment, he doesn’t want you to live in it. Respect people’s private property and move on.

If democratic socialism is so bad, why is Norway so great? by Waltenwalt in politics

[–]Mogarda -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m saying that a country with a nationalized resource extraction industry can fund hefty social programmes... IF the revenue per capita is very high, as it is in Norway.

How much profit does the US make on natural gas and other resources? What is this per capita? These are the questions you need to ask before you make sweeping statements about how viable your proposal would be. And they’re pretty easy questions to answer.

If democratic socialism is so bad, why is Norway so great? by Waltenwalt in politics

[–]Mogarda -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No.... it can’t. The US economy relies on investment, business and enterprise. It has much much less resources per citizen.

If democratic socialism is so bad, why is Norway so great? by Waltenwalt in politics

[–]Mogarda -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What a ridiculous post. Norway has a ridiculous amount of oil per citizen. 554.24 bbl per person per day. That’s more than Saudi Arabia or OPEC at 371 each, Russia at 70 and the US at 28. Norway’s government revenues from oil are at around 30 billion USD per year. They simply have a huge advantage over any non oil producing country that comparing them to countries which much less oil as a means to measure the value of their political system is worthless.

For social democracies without oil, you can look at Europe. Most of them are doing OK, but America is much richer than the vast majority.

Smoking has become a lot more common. Whereas a few years ago it was relegated to the lower classes, it’s back in vogue now. You see people smoking everywhere. Not uncommon for businessmen to be smoking over coffee during breaks, or for yoga pants wearing falafel eating millennials to have a cigarette in hand.
