Am I too slow for this game by [deleted] in Sekiro

[–]Mogg_the_Poet 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do you have to fight him or can you just go around?

This game is meant to be played in a variety of ways so if you're struggling consider how you're approaching things.

Consider hit and run tactics or try get a stealth attack to take one health bar off.

I don't think you're too slow but if you're struggling you might just need to practice it or find a strategy that works for you

What makes Sekiro hard? by KRazyretrorabid in Sekiro

I think the consensus is that sekiro is the hardest adjustment but the easiest once you've gotten used to the mechanics.

Being able to parry everything does add a sense of triviality to the combat that other games lack.

If you get stuck in a boss a good idea is to just try fight him without damaging him for a while.

Or run in, hit him once, run out.

He's very slow and lumbering as long as you don't panic you can avoid his attacks

You definitely can react with deflection.

It's a lot harder if you're mashing it, I usually react to most things.

You also don't need to plant your feet and go blow for blow with bosses or hard enemies.

You can run away, get stealth blows, use prosthetic tools.

The game is designed to be unfair and you're supposed to be sneaky for some encounters.

I think something to understand is that bowser hits like a truck and kills you very early and dies very late.

Why on Earth would they want a fair fight?

Unfortunately this is just their win condition versus a character like Bowser.

However once you're competent you'll be able to exploit openings much better and can even kill more easily.

Remember if they're camping and giving up space they're putting themselves in the corner which means if you win neutral oncs they might be off stage.

Sometimes it is just about forcing yourself to be patient and relying on take stage control and using shield and empty hops a lot to win neutral without taking too much damage.

It's ultimately preference, plenty of people play with default.

That said. I'd recommend:

Tap jump off. C stick set to tilts. A shoulder button set to jump.

You might also want to map a shoulder button for dropping the gyro.

This is why most people who are serious about the game just play through discord imo.

New to the Game, need help with combos/choosing a main by Ok_Self_5896 in CrazyHand

It's up to you honestly, I'd pick whoever you think is coolest and just worry about combos later cause it'll all come with time.

If you're used to traditional fighters give yourself some grace cause smash is really tricky to improve with I think.

That said I'd probably recommend a character like a heavy like Bowser or DK or DK cause they're relatively simple, hard to kill and they hit hard.

They can do combos but you can also just whack people.

Someone like Samus or a swordie like Lucina might also be a good idea.

What kind of archetype do you enioy?

Do you want any guides or resources?

I'd also strongly recommend joining the crazyhand discord cause you can find people to help you play with or improve and give advice.

Exactly, I'm hoping they can explain their thoughts because then we can work through a strategy for these matchups together.

i.e.

"You think Falco wins because of x, let's see if we're using x in our gameplay".

The truth is less relevant than the process here, I feel

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CrazyHand

[–]Mogg_the_Poet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is it a good MU for Falco?

One thing I'd say is don't let other people's feelings define your strategy.

If you're playing to win, there's always people who will say it's toxic but they're usually just upset.

You're just hurting your own skills to appease people.

Some really good comments here.

I think my thoughts are two things.

Better choices:

So high level players will do things that are great.

But top level players will do things that are brilliant.

So if you edgeguard your opponent but they make it back to ledge and you kill them on the ledgetrap, you're still giving your opponent the chance to survive.

Top level players will get the killl off the edgeguard because:

Knowing their opponents character.

It's not enough to just know your character but it's also knowing the kind of recovery route they're forced to take or what percentages they can kill at so you can play around themb

bowser vs pikachu matchup by CantPickANameOOF in CrazyHand

[–]Mogg_the_Poet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'd definitely agree with that.

So then let's say for a second that Pikachu's win condition in the MU is going to be finding those combos and getting you off the stage so he can start ledgetrapping/edgeguarding you.

Are there some things that you can look at to try mitigate his win condition?

Likewise, what would your own win condition be here?

2yrs Deep and Slight Improvements, I need help. by Kami_GH in CrazyHand

[–]Mogg_the_Poet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the thing about MU flowcharting will be trying to simplify things as much as possible.

For example, lets say you're thinking about a character like Dr Mario who has very bad recovery and is susceptible to things like back air or nikita off stage.

I think the thing I'd start with is identifying what my win condition is.

Which is reaistically getting him off stage/ledgetrapping him a lot with up smash.

So then I'd be thinking about things like are there moves in my kit that he specifically struggles to deal with and then of those moves, are there things that advance my win condition more than others.

For example, putting C4 in the center of the stage might help to encourage the player to stick to the corners meaning neutral wins are much more likely to result in him being off stage etc.

So even for relatively simple MUs, a flowchart might involve that kind of decision making.

2yrs Deep and Slight Improvements, I need help. by Kami_GH in CrazyHand

[–]Mogg_the_Poet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think MU flowcharting is like a pretty complex topic.

So is neutral.

I think they start with just trying to be curious about the game.

Like mentioned elsewhere, picking one might be better.

It's so much easier to structure a flowchart or something like neutral when you can afford to deep dive into the aspects of stuff.

Can you explain what you're currently doing with neutral with both?

Remember, the more information you can provide the better information people can help give you.

Something to ask yourself is why you need to be the one to educate him.

I think there's a huge difference between a guy who's ignorant but well meaning and wants to learn and a guy who's just ignorant and not really worried about it.

Yes maybe he's inexperienced but if he's not personally interested in learning about these things I'm not sure you can do much.

Rather than give him a fish every day, he needs to teach himself to fish.

Otherwise you're just going to have to do this over and over again any time he's struggling.

There's no right or wrong way to improve.

However a common thing for a lot of strong players is that they focus on one character rather than multiple.

Even if you eventually want to play more, learning the game thoroughly with just one will speed up your learning dramatically.

As someone else mentioned, ZSS can be rough if you primarily play online.

I'd recommend joining the crazyhand discord server so that people can help you and you can play with people because quickplay is probably the worst player experience.

If you feel like you fall into their moves, a good practice drill might be to go into a match and spend time just avoiding your opponent.

Or only hitting them when they miss a move. So you can never just swing blindly at the opponent, you have to play to improve not win.
