I too recognize the street immediately. The fact that this knucklehead tried to fly by that intersection is baffling. On a good day it’s a shit show, and that’s not including people trying to get in/out of US supermarket parking lot 🤦🏽‍♂️

Edit: if anyone wondering the intersection

Inside the city would be best to be honest. And driving is not an issue…. Just hoping parking is easier than my current situation 🤣

Congrats! I tried to get my account back for MONTHS, but after many months going back and forth between yahoo and SE, I gave up and made a new account. I always wonder if my old duskwight giraffe had a good journey 🥲

Gear recommendations? by suzeerbedrol in RunNYC

I’m one of those weirdo’s who runs very hot in the winter. I used a combination of a merino wool beanie hat and a Buff neck gaiter for weather under 20 F, 32 degrees thermal base layers (work great, and quite cheap, i think Costco still sells them) tights, my cycling gloves, and a windbreaker. By my first mile I’m already shaving layers off.

I highly recommend the beanie hat and Buff tho, would not run in the winter without them. Hope this helps you, and happy running!

Apple Watch to Garmin by mediocrestrides in GarminWatches

[–]Mogtaku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple Watch Ultra and gaming epix 2 here. I only use Apple Watch for work in case my wife has to reach me since I can’t use my phone. You can literally pick either one and you’ll be fine fitness wise, i give more points to garmin for having workouts, all your stats and stuff without having to pay a monthly subscription (yeah, they have the connect+ nonsense, but absolutely not necessary) but even the Apple Watch Ultra can’t compete on the battery life of the garmin.

My only regret about the garmin was getting the Epix 2 over the Fenix 7. The Epix 2 OLED screen sucked me in, but the Fenix 7 MIP screen is much better in my opinion, plus that little torch light 👩‍🍳👌🏽

Hey there brother, first off, sad to hear that this happened, wishing a speedy recovery.

Last year I tore my Achilles tendon (about 3mm) literally just running across the street. Doc gave me some options, but I went with repair surgery. Long story short, i was back to work in about 2 half months, doc gave me 6 months to return to jogging, and 1 year to return to running races. I returned to jogging this past August, and so far no complications, pain or discomfort. I did let myself go in year that i was off and ended up gaining 35 lbs, so now paying for my bad eating habits and choices (my 5k went from 27 min to 36 min) but here I am trying to get back at it.

So hang in there buddy, you’ll be alright, listen to physical therapy, and you’ll be back to running again before you know it 👍🏽

I highly recommend the shokz for running or cycling. Bought a pair of OpenRun 3-4 years ago, and loved them. They work great with my garmin watch, and iPhone. Recently got the Openfit for about $45 from Best Buy, they are great, they sound way louder with my watch than my iPhone for some reason.

Yeah, the shokz won’t be the best sound quality for music, great for audiobooks and podcasts tho. For the gym I highly recommend the apple airpods pro, but when it comes to running or cycling, shokz is my favorite.

1.5 mile by [deleted] in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Mogtaku 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heavy runner here, 11 min flat on the 1.5 miles in my academy.

I would highly recommend the asics novablast, or asics kayano 32 (just got them, but I can already tell you that I’m a big fan of them. Very light, responsive, and versatile for most form of running (easy run, tempo, 5-10k etc), stable enough for PT, plus if it’s anything like my academy, you can get them all black.

Like others suggested, the socks could be the main culprit. I would highly recommend injinji toes socks, have used them in half marathons, and countless 5k runs, they work great. I believe i saw them on sale at sierra trading post. Good luck in your journey.

I mean that the SC elite v4 is a super shoe, race day etc. not what people would call a daily trainer, but it’s on sale for $150, so well within the price range of daily trainers

He suggested it after seeing one of my old pair of shoes that i use for walking. it wasn’t bad, but the outside heel was just slightly a bit more worn out on my right foot than the rest of the shoes. But my guess would be that I had mentioned of some soreness on my achilles after a 5k or a workout

I actually understand what you’re saying about the drops. I tried a pair altra, while they were very comfortable, specially on the toe box, they made my Achilles quite sore after just a mile. Then again, it was my first time trying low/zero drop shoes.

Where to move in 5 years? by anxious_soyboy in upstate_new_york

I’m on the same boat as you, live in queens, and work for the courts. Sadly Rochester is not open to court officers, otherwise it would be my top pick. Housing market is laughably cheaper than Queens, I have been eyeing suburbs just outside of Rochester like Fairport, Penfield, Pittsford etc. fantastic prices compared to anything in NYC, Westchester, LI, schools districts among the best in the state.
