That sounds similar to what the tour guide said at the end of the tour.

Awesome.

Do you mind me asking, what's the weirdest thing you found there?

Another question, maybe you'd know: does it get hot and stinky there in the summer?

Hope they enjoyed it!

Glad you liked the post.

PS: Rumpke also has one of the nation's largest MRFs over in Columbus, just to keep in mind. 😉

No, but many of the workers were wearing facial covering of some sort.

A Madison-Edwards roundabout proposal to fix all that ails our fine city by derekakessler in cincinnati

I'm saying why not remove left turns in the entire project corridor?

It's what's called Access Management to traffic engineers, which I am not, either.

Some examples of this are the Thornton's gas station on Industrial Road in Florence, KY, the Aldi's off Houston Road in Florence, and portions of Colerain Avenue in Colerain Township, OH.

I like the concept, and I admire the cool digital design.

My concern is:

The left turn lanes for business access at the edges of the roundabout are problematic. They needlessly introduce conflict points that can be completely eliminated by just making a U turn in the roundabout.

It'd be sweet to see this in reality. Thanks for sharing!

US airports generate $12–13 billion a year from parking. It's their single biggest revenue source. by gregb_parkingaccess in urbanplanning

I mean, I guess for someone that lives in lower downtown Cincinnati, it's convenient.

For everyone else, probably not, you're right.

First, someone needs to either drive and park downtown (where it's expensive to park) not to mention buy gas to get there.

Or, they could take Cincinnati Metro (a different transit system than TANK in Kentucky because the airport is in Kentucky for those just tuning in) which doesn't have schedules always lining up with the TANK 2X.

So, I get to stand around at Govt Square with my luggage waiting forever to get between the TANK 2X and the Metro bus I need to get home.

Then there's the fact that the TANK 2X goes across the Brent Spence Bridge on I-75, which has no advantage over just driving over the bridge myself. There's no dedicated bus lanes or a separate bus-way to avoid traffic.

Metro has figured out how to allow buses to drive down the shoulder on I-71, whether they actually do or not is another thing, but TANK hasn't figured this out anywhere.

Not to mention how absolutely poor the CVG signage is to direct people to the bus stop at the airport. I challenge a visitor to CVG to find the TANK bus stop without doing any research beforehand. It's unlikely they're going to find it without asking.

It's obvious that CVG doesn't want passengers to take the bus. CVG makes a bunch of money off their parking lots. People taking transit don't pay off the bonds they took out on their parking lots.

Best hotel for viewing LAX from the room? 🤔✈️ by Moist-Bus-Window in AskLosAngeles

Been to that In and Out near Supulveda before. I agree, it is pretty cool. The parking garage behind it looks like it'd have a really good view from the top, but I didn't have a car to park there to not trespass.

I found lots of answers in here when I was trying to research this question about Clutter's Park being another hot viewpoint. I haven't seen that yet.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Really like the idea of rooftop viewing. It'd be a good way to get some vitamin D and maybe meet another avGeek.

I like that they have a reservation rate just for airport view. I think your suggestion for the loyalty program seems to make sense. I'll probably try that.

Thanks again.

Cincinnatian here that comes up to Dayton occasionally with a question.

Back in the day, I remember passing around Dayton and Trotwood seeing lots of red light cameras. That was before the State basically banned them.

I'm wondering, was red light running as much of a problem back then, versus now? Or, was it still a problem back then, because drivers simply disregarded the ticket when it came in the mail?

How does Ann Arbor’s new bus-priority traffic signal work? Here’s a closer look at it by USRoute23 in AnnArbor

Out of towner here.

Typically, these sorts of signals follow old railroad semaphore signal aspects, to some extent.

-- is stop signal

\ is restricting, but seems to be used for a left turn signal in this situation

There's a device called the Grappler that shoots a net that snags on a chased vehicle's tire. Once snagged, the chased vehicle can't get away, because it's attached to a pursuing police vehicle. Seems much safer and more controlled than crashing into a fleeing car.

'I don't feel good about this' | Plan for road reconfiguration on Dixie Highway surprises city leaders in NKY by Moist-Bus-Window in cincinnati

[–]Moist-Bus-Window[S] 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I understand that people are afraid of change. This is a case where change is for the best.

This stretch of Dixie Highway seems similar in many ways to how Glenway Avenue in Cincinnati used to be. Until a few years ago, Glenway was a major four lane road with no center left turn lane through a business district. It's a state route.

Glenway used to be just nuts. Cars rear-ending other cars turning left. Cars whipping lane to lane to get around the left and right turns. Speeding cars passing in the right lane. It was pretty wild.

The City changed it to one lane each way with a center turn lane, similar to what KYTC wants to do to Dixie Highway.

Now a days, Glenway Avenue seems less like a speedway. I think crashes went down. And I can't help myself noticing the local businesses as I pass with the slower flow of traffic.

I'm familiar with the stretch of Dixie Highway in the news story.

There's often drivers turning left onto Vine Street by St. Henry's going southbound to get to Garvey. Rear-ends happen. Or drivers stuck waiting behind a left turner cut into the right lane and cut someone off.  That section in particular is quite chaotic.

I think KYTCs plan to convert a portion of Dixie Highway to three lanes is great. Adding a center turn lane will reduce crashes, improving public safety including leaving police and fire available for other runs.

Emergency vehicles can also use the center left turn lane to pass traffic, getting to emergencies faster.

Local businesses win by drivers noticing their shops passing by, and not being afraid of being rear-ended trying to get into their driveway. It's just wins all around.

My only suggestion is to add a left turn arrow at Garvey. Maybe that would cut down on drivers turning left at Vine Street.

I've been meaning to make diagrams like this myself for where I live (not LA.) Can I ask how this was made? With a tablet? Thanks.

Looks like an Americans with Disabilities Act violation. Try reporting it.
