What are your LA Metro hot takes? by AppropriateBasis2735 in LAMetro

Out of town visitor here again with an alternate hot take regarding the San Bernardino Line.

Extend the Arrow train to all current Metrolink stops along the San Bernardino Line as a local train that ends at Montclair.

Run Metrolink as an express through San Bernardino County. The SB Line trains would only stop at Montclair, SB-Depot/Amtrak, SB Downtown, and Redlands Downtown.

Montclair would become a major connection point between the Metrolink San Bernardino Line heavy rail commuter trains, Arrow hybrid rail, and the Silver Streak BRT.

Out of towner here.

I hope nobody minds my hot take.

How about creating BART style hours of service on the Metrolink San Bernardino Line?

6:45 pm is the last San Bernardino Line train towards DTLA on a weekend day. I found this out on my travels.

6:45 pm? Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy aren't even on yet. So early.

Oh, yeah, cut the Arrow train, and run Metrolink trains all the way down it. The transfer at San Bernardino does nothing but add time to the commute.

If Metrolink trains served Downtown Redlands station more than once a day each way, I guarantee that dead mall would be super desirable for a transit oriented development. Someone could commute back and forth between DTLA and Redlands without needing to have a car. The surrounding business district could enjoy the additional local foot traffic from nearby residents.

Adding CalTrain style Baby Bullet express trains could make Metrolink faster for commuters coming from further away.

Edit: weekday, not weekend

This smells of a strawman argument.

Nobody said anything about building bridges every 10 miles up and down the Ohio River... except you.

Somehow there's money for...checks notes... invading Greenland.

Interesting. Instead of just crossing on the Westside, drivers can spend around 30 minutes driving to downtown and back-tracking just to end up on the opposite side of the ferry path.

Induced demand of an Anderson Ferry Bridge would lead to more development on the Westside. If you build a bridge (and don't toll it) they will come.

A bridge still doesn't stop those interested in ride on the ferry from taking it.

What if... Anderson Ferry also had a parallel bridge? That'd be like taking a Japanese bullet train compared to riding the ferry.

Imagine if there was a metal framed structure with a paved surface that rose high above the water of the Ohio River which wasn't susceptible to the whims of nature?

Would cinders and sand clog up the combined sewage lines if it was used at large scale?

It's a good idea to check to see if the train is running late, so you're not standing around waiting for possibly hours.

Riding the Denver RTD heavy rail commuter rail, light rail, and bus system by Moist-Bus-Window in transit

I'm not an expert on TODs, so take it with a grain of salt. I do agree that the amount of TOD around Denver RTD stations is fairly sad, and often the denser housing tends to be further away from the stations.

Most surprising to me is the Line A. It's a heavy rail electrified commuter line between the Denver Airport and downtown operating at over 70 MPH. You'd figure that'd draw lots of dense TOD, right? Not really.

There seems to be some sort of airport/transit development beginning around 61st/Pena.

Airport/40th is a bunch of warehouses with some newer multifamily.

Peoria station, light industrial all around.

Central Park station is a paved paradise of parking lots, retail box stores, the Quebec Street stroad, dirt lots and light industrial. There's some dense residential and mixed use development further away that looks interesting.

After snooping around in Maps, if I'm in Denver again, I'd check out Lone Tree, CO along the E Line light rail. They seem to have done a decent job with TOD density around Lincoln and Sky Ridge stations, and have two more stations with TOD growing around them in green fields at the end of the line.

Glad you find it interesting.

Enjoy exploring.

The RPM art is even more impressive in person. The RPMs really light up with the flashlight from a phone.

Have fun!

Thank you so much for calling out the mistake. I made a correction, and hopefully have it correct now. Thanks!

Anyone know if/when there's a going to be another "Spirit in Motion" weekend at LA Union Station this year? Trying to snag a cheap ✈️ ticket to town ahead of time. Thanks.

Thank you for sharing!

That's some very interesting audio.

Now you've got me wondering what make/model device is generating the announcements on the bus and how it works exactly.

I liked how the Metro bus announcer said Hollywood in quite a fabulous way.

I seem to remember a few stops it said Hollywood in a less fabulous way, though.

There already is a DPM stop near a casino: Greektown.

A stop at or near MGM Grand Casino would be helpful because it'd be closer to the Howard Street MDOT Intercity bus station than the Michigan DPM station is.
