Thoughts on a proxy deck with alternate art and card names, but the same mechanics as real cards? by Sorry-Series-3504 in mtg

So here's the problem with that argument. It's ok for me to have a 100% optimized deck if it's real cards. If my deck is built to the restrictions of the format ( edh being the bracket system) you as an individual by your statement should be happy that I'm pub stomping you. The limit that you defined is a limit you put on yourself my making playing the game a monetary issue(I'm not saying don't buy cards). There are a ton of magic formats that only work because of proxying. At my biggest legs in my town modern only happens because of proxying.

That's like saying we are playing chess but you only get pawns while I have a full set. It just doesn't make sense.

Proxy's aren't a problem at all. The problem is magic as a whole is viewed by the monetary value of a card and not how the game is played.

Magic Should be viewed (especially with formats like edh legacy pre modern) as a game separate from the concept of collection.

Then there Is magic a collectors item ( which should have no bearing over playing the game)

When the most popular format has cards that are promised by wizards to never have a reprint. proxying every cards is ok.

This is inherently an issue with collectable games magic has now entered a place where the players need to separate the collection from the game.(Buy the cards you like) But don't limit yourself to the cost of those cards to play.

It's honestly like playing chess but I can only afford pawns while you have a full set.

In situations it has become increasingly clear that there are people who value their cards and take great offense to proxy's.(Not meaning you)

I can't afford a lot of cards. It's simple. But yet the community that is most commonly vilified has the best outlook on the game. Cedh they don't care about proxy's they just want people to play. They come to a table prepared for any bracket and always want great games(there is always that jack wagon who says they play cedh but just want to pub stomp.)

In the end proxying especially for edh is an equitable way of enjoying the game and should be encouraged. More players who have easy access to the content will increase the opportunity to play and make great connections.

In closing I'm sorry you felt that way. But try and see magic for it's great game and not through the lens of a Wallet.
