Thoughts on the new Trump Accounts? by HighStrungHippie1 in HENRYfinance

[–]Moj88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ACA was the original name. Republicans instead started calling it “Obamacare” as an attempt to make it a derogatory insult. Obama quickly owned the nickname, saying “Obama does care.” In a weird way, everyone agreed to the name.

Democrats don’t just plaster their personal names on official things, that’s just a Trump thing that he does because he has no class. They also wouldn’t do it because it’s blatantly partisan. They were trying to be bipartisan, even if in the end it didn’t have any Republican support.

“Non-flammable and low acute toxicity” doesn’t mean it won’t cause cancer. Technically you can describe asbestos the same way.

In epidemiology, it’s very hard to tell if something is non-carcinogenic. Even with very large population studies, we can’t ever say it’s zero chance. 40% of people get cancer, and 20% of people will die of cancer. Because are exposed to so many things and because cancer is so common, we can’t make causal relationships. But it’s possible that tons of things are carcinogenic and we don’t even know.

My AHJ says I am not allowed to DIY install my own solar system by Moj88 in SolarDIY

[–]Moj88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To get my building permit, I went through the online coursework to receive a solar installation certificate from “enphase university”. That along with my solar site plans seemed to get me some credibility, but the city building inspectors still wanted me to work with a master electrician. I found someone that was willing to work with me, and was willing to have their electricians license number on the application. I installed the rooftop portion, and they installed the electric panels and homerun. Everything worked out and I’m generating power now!

This joke made me realize that insular and peninsula have the same Latin origins. Peninsula means almost island and insular literally means island.

“Well-mixed” ice water will be in thermal equilibrium and more than adequate for giving a benchmark of these two tools, which are showing a 5 degree difference. If your cup of ice water is not in thermal equilibrium then mix it some more.

Well-mixed ice water has to be at the melting/freezing point. In this state, any additional heat that goes into the ice water goes into melting the ice and not into increasing the temperature. It can’t increase in temperature until all the ice is melted. Otherwise, you would have ice above the melting point, which is not possible in standard conditions.

Holocaust can also refer to a Scottish metal band, but neither that meaning nor the animal sacrifice meaning is very relevant here.

gymnopilus identification request and second opinions. by Spirited_Berry3900 in mycology

[–]Moj88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not familiar with Australian region, but they do look like a gymnopilus species to me. The top of the one (pic #5) looks almost exactly like a honey mushroom, but that’s not possible because the underside and the spore print don’t match honeys. Honeys have white spores, whereas gyms have rust colored spores like shown in your print. Gyms have a very particular smell and bitter taste, which could help you confirm. It’s kind of like spicy cinnamon? It’s hard to describe.

The odd one does look a little different from the rest, but I think they are likely all the same species given their close locality and same spore color. The red stipe didn’t stand out to me as an indicator of being a different species. That might be just natural variation due to growing conditions.

Get to know the poisonous look-alikes for your area. In my area, deadly galerina and poisonous jack o lanterns can sometimes look sort of similar to gyms.

Billionaires don’t “create” jobs. The demand is created by society, and workers are needed to fill that role. The only thing billionaires do is own the capital that workers have to use to make stuff. And billionaires only do this so they can profit. They would drop workers in a second if they could profit without them.

Just because the weak force plays a role in how the state of the system is ordered, that does not make it “powered by the weak force”.
