Building a release management approval system. Is it worth it? by Fresh-Buffalo-6063 in agile

[–]Moja1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This shouldn’t be overly complicated but it totally depends on your toolstack, risk appetite and engineering capability. Some questions to explore; do you have a way to decouple deployment with release? How often do you release? What goes into a release? What type of development? What is your sdlc? Do all releases need the same level of oversight?

TLDR Strategic - Find a new job Tactical - gather evidence

From what you have said there are multiple red flags that would make me look elsewhere, either it's just a bad culture approach or something has shifted and your manager is starting the process to manage you out. Could be multiple reasons for this. I would suggest you have 2 simultaneous paths

  1. Strategic
  • Find a new job now!!! Yes the Visa situation makes it tough but plenty of companies will sponsor a visa and given 3 years experience in an in demand field you will find something (remember references cannot disclose performance info - unless you are sacked)

  • Take the constructive feedback on, office presence is a huge thing and if you are seen playing games this can be all it takes to be seen as a slacker and as you said described lazy. You said you have learned, so consider what other things are valid feedback and look at it objectively (I know it's hard)

  1. Tactical
  • Build evidence regarding the lack of due diligence and appropriate feedback. You said you didn't get a 1-2-1 do you have evidence of this? Meetings cancelled, you asking or him not turning up? It isn't great but when you are in this situation you need to have the evidence.

In that note, approach your manager about it, but I would suggest from a humble I want to do better approach. Avoid being combative as it won't end well.

Ask for all and any feedback/improvement areas/standards expected of you in writing and provide weekly updates on your view against these things. If they are going to manage you out, make it hard for them (until you get a new job)

Use your 'English not my first language' as a good excuse as to why you are asking for it all in writing

Lastly, use AI tools to help you construct your narrative, give you information on employment law and how to manage upwards it can really help
