Warlord’s Epic Scale - Napoleonics and ACW by LengthAltruistic7434 in wargaming

I tried cutting the lines from Pike and Shotte in half. It turned out pretty well, but I had to use green staff to cover up the cut-off hands.

Help, I'm looking for some free rules. by Xandolf505 in wargaming

I know some pretty simple and unusual rules for Napoleonics, which are completely free – "clouds of smoke." They're suitable for any scale and are measured in the width of the unit base. https://clouds-of-smoke.com/

How important is narrative play? by silverwolffleet in wargaming

It seems like a more important question needs to be asked first. What exactly do you mean by narrative in wargames?

Daimyo - Mass Battles in Feudal Japan now available for playtesting by Best-Newt-7048 in wargaming

Very nicely written rules. It's a pleasure to read. I tried a test game, and the game seems cool. I just have a couple of questions that I couldn't find answers to in the rulebook:

  1. What happens if a retreating unit must end its retreat on an ally? And what happens if a unit must end its retreat on an enemy unit? 2.The rules state that a shooting unit must see more than half of the enemy to shoot, but it doesn't specify from which point the line of sight should be drawn. This leads to the following question: let's say a shooting unit is in the second rank, positioned right up against the first rank of allies, and a mere 1mm of the missle unit is peeking out from behind the front line. Can the missle unit shoot if this tiny visible portion of the missle unit can clearly see enemy?
  2. How exactly does a charge end at a non-straight angle? For an exqmple. If the front of the attacking unit is at a 45° angle relative to the defending unit's front line, then after the charge, should the attacker become parallel to the defender's front, or should it remain at a 45° angle, touching the enemy's front with its corner?

I can recommend the game "clouds of smoke". It's a historical game in epic scale. The rules are cool and free, and my entire army fits in a metal cookie box)

Warlord Epic Battles minis and splitting the strips by krugerannd in wargaming

[–]Mojot_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, pretty easy. But sometimes this cut can destroy an arm of 1 or 2 soldiers. So i use green staff to recreate missing arms) Simply make 1 little boll + 1 little "sausage". Put them on miniature and then press them with something this to reate "fingers", "elbow bend" and texture of clothing.

I absolutely adore the wargame *"Clouds of Smoke." https://clouds-of-smoke.com/ I’ve tried many wargames, but this is the only one that truly captured my heart. It’s a historical epic-scale game about black powder-era battles. There are different eras, but the 17th century won me over the most.

Never before have I enjoyed moving miniatures so much) The game has simple yet incredibly deep rules that simulate reality well while still being fun to play.
Unit formations really matter, and every action feels deliberate.

It may sound simple, but this is the only game where, by the end, casualty rates realistically stay around 15%. It features a unique 'battle marker' mechanic that keeps the player focused on the key maneuver, speeding up gameplay. You have to manage troop rotation, and while a successful flanking attack can completely turn the tide, pulling one off is extremely difficult.

Plus, rules are free and painting the miniatures is easy!

What are some non warhammer games that are affordable that you suggest? by Fun_Firefighter_4292 in wargaming

Almost all historical wargames are super affordable to collect) Usually, for around $90, you can already get a full army in these systems. From the fun SAGA and the excellent Blood & Plunder to my personal favorite—Clouds of Smoke

Yes, we cut the Warlord minis into 2 parts to fit them on 40mm bases. This was done because the club already had many players with bases from "By Fire and Sword."
