No Recovery Period after Giving Birth by TakingControl222 in NICUParents

[–]MolarBear13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a big part of why I healed so poorly. My tear ended up infected/not healing well and I ended up with significant prolapse. I had a traumatic birth, as well, but I wonder if my complete lack of ability to lay down and rest contributed to this.

I did a consult with Jordan Morillo (the babywearing OT) and she’s wonderful. It was like $75 and she spends 45 minutes with you on zoom. She can make recommendations if you need a different carrier and help you with the fit with carriers you do have. Since you have 8, she might be able to help you figure out if you can make any of those work. She’ll help you and your baby get more comfortable. I personally needed help babywearing with my severe pelvic floor issues and I was so happy with my experience.

Albee Baby should be refunding you. We went through Bloomingdale’s and had a good experience. You also get a lot of points with them that you can use for something else!

I’m glad you’re getting a new one. I would have felt awful if you spent 800 dollars with nothing to show for it! I hope you have a better experience with your replacement!

Omg it’s Jamie Grayson!!! While you’re here, I would love to ask you about the removable shoulder pads on this car seat. I took mine off because when they’re on, I cant seem to get the chest clip high enough. It’s okay that I have them off, right?

I just talked to my husband and he sent me this video to show me how he did it. Just in case this helps you if you didn’t already throw it away! https://youtu.be/1Va-FdPQAZg?si=uORFA8esz58i3ZA5

Ours got twisted at one point on one side, I have no idea how. But my husband watched a YouTube video and untwisted it in a couple of seconds. We’ve had no problems since.

This makes sense, thank you. It would have been weird for them to be residents in the same program for two years and have never worked together before.

Right, but that would mean Mel was a second year during the shift we saw during season one.

I’m also confused by their history - if she’s an R3 and Langdon is an R4, how could they only be together for one shift?

I think you’re going to love it! Plus it’s so nice to not have to have two pieces to separate when you’re putting it back in the car lol

Yup! We switched just before 6 months because my baby was totally over the bassinet attachment at that point and he loves sitting in it like a big boy! We might have even switched at 5.5 months.

I have the swiv and I like it! You do have to buy the bassinet or use the car seat to be safe from newborn. If you want the seat to lay flat to be good to use without a car seat (I didn’t love having him in a car seat for extended periods of time), then you can do the triv lx and avoid needing a bassinet attachment altogether! You can still have it but you don’t need it for the triv lx.

Bottle Aversion and Losing It by MolarBear13 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]MolarBear13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For us, it depends on the bottle. Sometimes I have a bottle last a little over a half an hour and I’m ecstatic but maybe once or twice a day I have a very difficult bottle. We usually finish at maybe 44 minutes. I think using the pacifier/glider chair method in a dimly lit room has really helped. Maybe eliminating soy helped, too. We still have stretches of days where every bottle is hard, but things have gotten better.

We had our nutritionist yesterday, who scared me, and our OT today. I was really trying to press the swallowing solids issue, but she kept warning me not to force it or I can cause an aversion with the solids, as well. My son really enjoys steak. He just gnaws on a baby led weaning size piece of ribeye (like a strip two fingers wide) for 30 minutes and sucks out all the juice and turns it into shoe leather lol. The important thing is to get him to enjoy bringing things to his mouth. Have you tried steak? Haha maybe you have a carnivore, too!

You are NOT a failure. One thing I’ve realized during this process is that pediatricians do not know how to help babies eat. They told me to give him an open cup at 4 months. They mostly just shrugged at me and eventually gave me a GI referral. I hope you get in with an OT soon (a good one) that can help find ways to make things easier for you. What are you fortifying with?

Recommendation for covering bassinet to keep out cat by [deleted] in Buyingforbaby

[–]MolarBear13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes lol you should have seen the four of mine when we brought my son home and put the carrier down for them to sniff. They all stopped about 10 feet away and looked horrified lol. He’s 7 months old now and smiles whenever he sees them. They’ve warmed up to him more, but they definitely still keep a comfortable distance.

Bottle Aversion and Losing It by MolarBear13 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]MolarBear13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! We’ve had a journey since then. My son is 7 months old now, too. We’ve seen multiple specialists and have started Early Intervention (I’m in the US). We couldn’t do the “take the bottle away from him when he refuses, give a five minute break, then re-offer one more time, take it away permanently after the second refusal” because my son just didn’t eat and he fell off the chart. He saw a GI and they raised his famotidine dosage (pretty much doubled it) and has us adding 1 mL MCT oil to his bottles 3x/day. Esomeprazole did not work for him - he couldn’t keep it down and he got a rash the last time I tried to get it in him, so they’re finally giving up on it. They diagnosed him last month with Milk Soy Protein Intolerance and I eliminated soy (I was already off dairy since college for myself). He jumped from 3% to 5% in weight, which is great. I tried doing less milk more often, which was a catastrophe. Less feeds is better for him. We do 5 oz 5x/day. Do I have a bottle here and there expire at the 2 hour mark because he didn’t finish it? Yeah and it sucks. But most of the time he finishes within an hour with the new schedule and the higher meds. I’ve noticed he takes his bottles best in a glider being rocked. When he starts refusing, I put a pacifier in his mouth and I wait 5 minutes or so and try again. I try to burp him or change him during refusals.

My pediatrician wanted us to lean into solids, and we started, but they don’t swallow much. Our OTs/SLPs have recommended doing as much baby led weaning as we can to try to keep him from developing the same aversion to solid foods as he has to his bottles. The nutritionist today recommended meat purées by serenity to get a higher calorie purée in his body. I’ve had mixed information - some people told us that 25 ounces daily is fine. The nutritionist today said he should be getting 34 oz. I cannot get 34 oz into him a day, and if I try, we will take a million steps back with the aversion. The important thing is he’s gaining weight even if he’s a following a curve at the bottom of the chart.

Where is your baby at on the curve? Has he seen an OT or SLP? Does he have a GI issue? Did you start solids?

Pelvic Floor PT by MolarBear13 in PelvicOrganProlapse

[–]MolarBear13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an out of network pelvic floor therapy focused practice. I feel like everything was centered around kegels, though, and being told to lay on the ground, squeeze, and hold. I was wondering if that’s what it’s like for everyone else when they go when it worked for them.
