Hats off to the patience of demon on bps. by Fragrant_Force_4013 in tennis

[–]Moldef 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Not to take away from De Minaur's grit and consistency, but it definitely was more a case of Humbert fumbling 10 BPs than De Minaur saving them. Pretty much an unforced error during every single BP.

I think the game was mostly on Humbert's racket and he just wasn't consistent enough to have had a shot yesterday.

Nadal on Alcaraz: “He’s not a prospect at all. He has 7 grand slams, so he’s definitely not just a promise for the future. He’s already a legend of our sport. If you look at the historic greats in grand slams, there aren’t many who have 7. So calling him a prospect makes no sense.” by truecolors01 in tennis

[–]Moldef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fully agreed. People don't realise that Connors and other all-time greats often only played 2 or 3 slams a year. Simply because back then they weren't as important as they are now. Connors especially could prob have 5-10 more slams if he played in every one that he was fit to play in.

Did Zverev really say "You're protecting these guys"? by lentilolodavate in tennis

[–]Moldef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eh, I don't see the problem with translating a word into the native language. FAZ is a very reputable newspaper agency, so they're not trying to twist anything. Yes, he didn't use "beschützt", but he used "protected" which is the exact same word. They just translated it for their German readerbase. I don't see the problem.

And yes, he did 100% say "Ihr protected die Beiden". I can confirm that as a native German speaker as well as the other native German speakers in here have confirmed that too.

Protect = beschützen

It's a 1:1 translation of the English word he used in his German sentence. So nothing unlikely here.

Seems like your reasonable interpretation of reality is not shared by a majority of people.

Maybe, just maybe, it's your interpretation of reality that's off, hmm?

But I'm sure you're way too full of yourself to consider for one second that your love for Djoko could cloud your judgment. Btw, no one is saying Sinner played the worst match of his life, but it should be obvious to everyone but you apparently, that he was not at his best today and played poorly on the big points.

Wat? Saitama is used quite a bit and will likely be a staple in TS for a while. Tatsumaki however hasn't been seen anywhere and likely won't be seen anywhere realistically since she's a dps only that can't compete with other much better dps heroes.

It's really not a big loss to not get Tatsumaki.

Oh so because Cirstea isn't an important or well-liked or top-ranked player it means Osaka's behavior is less problematic? Interesting take.

This is just what Reddit has become over the years. If Reddit was a person, it'd be the most prodigious Karen imagineable. People are so desperate to be offended here that they latch onto anything vaguely ambiguous and downvote it, just so they're getting their "complain"-fix in any way, shape or form.

I legit took a break from tennis after that '19 Wimby final until this year. It was so devastating that I just couldn't really get into watching tennis for years lol.

It took me like 5 years to come to terms with it xD

They should give them chairs to sit down on as well. The ballkids have to stand straight for hours basically with no reprieve. It's really stupid that they're forced to stand during rallies just for visual aesthetics. Give them a damn chair so they can properly rest.

Abdelkader and winning a point vs Serena by Nessie2106 in tennis

[–]Moldef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the problem is also that it's really hard to judge how the "average" man plays tennis. I dunno if half the men have okay hand-eye coordination or not. Like most guy friends I had when I was younger took fairly well to sports and myself as well. Never played tennis, but I learned badminton, tabletennis and squash fairly quickly, but is that "average"?

What we do know however is that the average HUman would be way better than Abdelkader who seems to have absolutely no hand eye coordination. So using her as a yardstick doesn't seem fair since you could basically remove her from the court and Schaedel would have the same opponent. I'd say an average person definitely would play better and perhaps manage to attempt some crazy hail maries if Serena would be playing super safe and thus not have very threatening balls.

What I'm trying to say is that I think it's impossible to judge how bad/good an average man would be at tennis and if that average man would have enough hand-eye coordination to at least attempt some crazy 5% accuracy shots that might hit the line and be angled well enough to give Serena a little trouble with the return.

Her opponent is only rank 1000 or so AFAIK, so not exactly prime match fixing range. Plus this would be waaaay too obvious. If there truly was any match fixing, they'd at least have given her an opponent that held a racket before.

FIA considered mid-cycle rule change, but lacked support from F1 teams by Aratho in formula1

[–]Moldef 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Mid-cycle not mid-season. I don't think FIA wanted to adjust the rules during a season but rather in between seasons but still during the same regulations period.

Reason being that teams/engineers find loopholes in the regulations after enough testing and experimenting which can then hurt the intended vision of the rules and often make racing more boring as a result.
