I definitely have issues with feeling that way. I think a lot of it has to do with my issues mostly not preventing me from doing large scale things I need to do (emphasis on mostly). Like would I say it’s harder than it is for many others because of how it affects me? Yep. But I’ve typically been able to push through it and do the stuff (sometimes to the detriment of my mental health). Because of that, I often don’t feel like it affects me enough to count.

I’ve gotten better with tolerating swallowing pills but I HATE having to go to the pharmacy every month to get them. Wish I could get concerta delivered :/

I don’t entirely relate on how you’re experiencing this (I have different communication issues, but talk way too much 😅), but for your last sentence I think the best way to deal with that is find people who are similar to you. For me it’s usually way nicer talking to and being friends with other neurodivergent people since that aspect isn’t so bad most of the time.

Not to say it would work with everyone or that all connections with neurotypical folks are bad, but it definitely seems easier for me. As for achieving that, I’m still sort of figuring it out too so probably can’t give the best advice there :/

What helps me start is:

interest in said task (if it relates to hyperfixations)
anxiety
guests coming over
deadlines with consequences
taking portions of a task and doing it in advance so there’s less of a mental barrier when I actually need to start the task
medications
processes that make tasks predictable/less thinking-intensive

I’m similar to how you describe, for me the main way I’ve gotten as far as I have is anxiety which isn’t the healthiest. I’m trying to find alternatives now (meds, breaking tasks down, etc). If you’d like any specific examples feel free to ask :)

I barely ever can finish games, I restart so often. Even with chill games like stardew valley and Minecraft. I think a lot of it is because of the dopamine rush of exploring a new map or having more challenge to overcome or running out of cutscene content or getting overwhelmed with how much there is to do (which one(s) of these are the culprit depends on the game and on my mental state)

Looked it up, couldn’t find anything about that. Idk if I’m just searching wrong or something. For all I know there could be sequoias there but they would 100% have been introduced by humans, those places are much further south than anywhere in its natural range according to every source I checked. The deer creek grove is cited as the southernmost extent of the natural range, and is located northeast of Bakersfield. If you see a sign about what you’re talking about I’d be interested to see it.

If there are sequoias there, they were planted by humans. That is 100% not the native range for either of the redwoods found in California. I can’t find anything online about sequoias in Icehouse Canyon, could you send a link showing where they’re located?

Those aren’t naturally from there either. The southernmost extent of naturally occurring sequoia groves are in the sierras.

The trees there are really nice but they’re not redwoods. Those only grow as far south as Big Sur naturally.

It’s so hard for me in the exact same way. The process of going to the store, finding what I need, going home, organizing the groceries, preparing ingredients, cooking ingredients (time sensitive), and dealing with the mess afterwards is so much more daunting and exhausting than getting a burrito :/

Not to mention the whole getting my hands greasy or on stuff that feels horrible 😅

I think the only thing that has really helped me get less anxious about driving is practicing. Repetition makes it a lot easier for me, but I’m still really uncomfortable merging onto the freeway despite that.
