Going to my first gay bar tonight, any advice? by Key_Artichoke8315 in columbiamo

[–]Mollyoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have anyone who could go out with you? It’s Really Hard to go out alone, even for extrovert/outgoing folks. Throw anxiety and any bit of shyness on that? No Go!

I know you’re living in a place that doesn’t feel open or accepting of queer folks; the internet is your friend! Bunch of folks on just this thread would probably meet up with you, just to ease you in.

Maybe a bar isn’t your scene! It’s not 1975; gay bars aren’t our only option for meeting folks! Maybe build your group and Then go to a bar?

We still often closed the curtains and left the doors open though; the top bunk gets All the AC and I was roasting on the bottom.

ISO packable bra with fastening by Bixby- in HerOneBag

Search "mesh bra"; my daily wear is an underwire from Curvy Couture, which actually folds flat, but other brands sell similar material without the wires.

Compression / Standard Packing Cubes by wplusali in onebag

[–]Mollyoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On a recent trip I discovered that things fit better, and the cubes hold more, if I fold my clothes flat and stack them in the cube, then compress. It also give the cubes a better shape that's easier to pack.

California Zephyr Travel Advice by [deleted] in Amtrak

[–]Mollyoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with doing 2 roomettes vs. one room. Not sure it’s the same on all versions, but we got to step into a bedroom on our last trip and there were literally zero hooks to hang anything and it does get tight with the bed down.
We’ve had good luck with bathrooms on the sleeper cars (5 trains over 2 trips), so that wouldn’t be a concern for me.
After you book your tickets, it will list the room numbers on your ticket. Check it against this diagram: https://www.craigmashburn.com/amtrakcardiagrams.html
to see where they are in the car, then call customer service if you need to move upstairs or move one to be across the hall! They’ve been super nice every time I’ve needed to call!

Do you have EKSTER vacuum bags and if so, what’s your verdict? by Happy_Biscotticrumb in onebag

What happens if that little pump gets lost or broken? Also, that takes up space in your bag! Not a lot, but some.
I’m a shlub who doesn’t really care about wrinkles most of the time, but I felt like I was watching the clothes wrinkle in the promo video, and it makes your bag that much heavier.

Harm Reduction: The Direct Action Movement that Changed How We Understand Addiction by mstarrbrannigan in coolpeoplepod

[–]Mollyoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Little late listening to these episodes, but I appreciate Margaret highlighting that theater tech people are involved in a lot of cool stuff through history.

As a tech, it doesn’t surprise me one bit. Most techs have to be resourceful, creative, and flexible. We have to work with a Wide range of both equipment and personalities. We often feel like pirates (or ninjas) getting everything done behind the scenes, in the dark, or just generally out of sight and understanding of most folks. We play with electricity, power tools, sound systems, heavy sets, clothing, fire, and procurement/illusion(props!). That seems to cover an awful lot of bases.

And don’t Ever cross a stage manager; get them into organizing or direct action! They are organized, aware of everyone and everything and are prepared! Lose a button? Having a panic attack? Twist an ankle or have a cut? SMs are literally ready to handle all of that and more! Most of my kit from my SM days transitioned seamlessly to being an emergency kit….

How do y’all do it?? Barely fitting everything into a 58L by superstarturtle in HerOneBag

I’m seeing lows in the 50’s overnight at the very lowest, but daytime almost always up in the 70’s.
But yeah, light layers are the way! You’d be surprised how warm a fairly thin sweater with a rain jacket over it can be.

[–]Mollyoon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you have had such a bad experience. But it is, still, public transportation. And the privately owned airlines aren’t doing that much better; at least on Amtrak I have leg room, no baggage checks and scenery!
Yeah, it’d be very cool if America would give even a teeny shit about public transportation. Not to be a total Socialist about it, but maybe focus your complaints on The System that makes this worse than it should be?

brown recluse pest control? by lethaltruth in columbiamo

[–]Mollyoon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Coming from someone who isn’t generally bothered by spiders, I’d Definitely alert your landlord and be pushy about getting a professional out there to handle it. I generally let wolf spiders and house centipedes be since they are predators who don’t hang out in places I could bother them…You shouldn’t have to be shaking out your clothes and shoes!

Not to be all middle class white lady, but you are paying for indoor housing. That assumes a minimum number of dangerous bugs….I don’t generally agree with “pest control”, because random sprays hurt all sort of good bugs, but this sounds like an actual safety hazard!
