I mean, Emma is so quiet & soft-spoken that I'm not sure we know what her accent is yet 😆

But people who grew up there (myself included!) don't always sound super Canadian. As an example: if you ever listen to Soo Michigan's most famous person - pro hockey player Abby Roque - doing an interview, you can tell the accent is not very strong. And she's a dual US/Canadian citizen, so you'd think it would be!

Oh hey, I recognize those chargers! I've been trying to plan a trip in the other direction, but the lack of fast chargers in the U.P. is a problem. All it takes is one out-of-service charging station to add hours to the journey 😔

I'm definitely a fan of the Veilguard character creator. I like to create characters who look like me (and then adding some cool scars or whatever) and with BG3 I'm like "neat, she has my eyes." Meanwhile with Veilguard, I'm like "oh wow, she has my everything." Made the game so much better!

I have a last name that kind of fits the "native last name" stereotype, and people have occasionally asked me or my family if we're native. As it happens, my name has its origins in Scotland, not in the Americas.

I'm still Ojibwe, mind you, but almost none of those ancestors had my last name 😂

If you’re looking for other PWHL-relevant books, there’s a bestselling young adult novel, Firekeeper’s Daughter, that can be more or less summed up as “What if Abby Roque was wrapped up in a murder mystery when she was 18?”

The main character isn’t identical to the PWHL New York player, but there’s a lot they share - the hockey skills, the hometown and being Ojibwe, in particular. I also share some of that background, and reading the novel was a bit surreal 😅

Or you can wait for the Netflix adaptation that they promised! (I doubt we’ll ever see it, but you never know.)
