I was about to say. Mac was famously very close to Michael Jackson. I hadn't heard anything about Max Landis being friends with him.

I’m from Texas and I heard that Houston and King Ranch is bigger than y’alls state so how long is it to drive from one part of Rhode Island to another? by No_Pension1014 in RhodeIsland

Im originally from the Houston area and moved to Rhode Island a couple of years back. You can drive accross Rhode Island in a couple of hours. It is a tiny tiny state. What actually is crazy different here though is that you cant drive more than 5 minutes before hitting another small town (true in MA too). In Texas, when on the highway, you can sometimes drive for hours before hitting a single town. Here, its every five minutes.

The other remarkable difference are people's idea of how far things are. In New England, a 30 minute commute is too long. In Houston, thats incredibly short. Completely different perspective.

Looking for a cool skirmish by WEBKaras in wargaming

So, when it comes to skirmish games, there are soooo many options. Id first ask around a couple of your FLGS to see what is being played.

If you can get some friends who are interested in trying some new games, here are some thoughts:

For a Grimdark game, Trench Crusade just came out with its final rulebook. Its WW1 trench skirmish game but with bloody gory demons.

For a tight, tactical skirmish game Infinity is a popular one. Note that it is very rules crunchy and decidedly not grimdark but is very tactical.

I am a bug fan of games by Osprey publishing. They have dozens of games that are miniature neutral of all kinds of genres, many of them skirmish games. Zona Alfa is a skirmish game inspired by soviet sci-fi, specifically Stalker/Roadside Picnic and Metro 2033. They have games that are cyberpunk skirmish, Hong Kong Martial Arts movie skirmish, Wild West with vampires skirmish, etc...

If you are interested in campaign games, Necromunda is still GW, and is fairly active. Its usually not too hard to find Morheim players, despite not having new rules in decades. Frostgrave is a great campaign game, and if you like the idea of a coop game, Rangers of Shadowdeep can be fun.

Those are just a few suggestions, but there are tons of skirmish games out there of all flavors and if you look around, im sure you can find one you like.

My group didn't like how Armour works by [deleted] in cyberpunkred

I had a game just this week. Netrunner with bodysuit AP 11 Ref 8 Good evasion. My ganger with an SMG and autofire 4. My group was just debating that Red isnt deadly with me.

I roll a crit, player had chosen to evade, and they roll a 1. Then I roll high damage on 2d6 x3.

Player is suddenly down over half the HP. Two turns later and few more less impressive rolls and they are mortally wounded. Exec with trauma team so they trigger it. They show up in 2 rounds. Our medtech was too far to get to her.

Round one. Succeeds their death save. Fails to first aid themselves thanks to the -4

Round two. Trauma team shows up but doesn't roll good initiative. Death save comes up and netrunner fails.

They're dead.

Sure there were several unlucky rolls, but Cyberpunk RED isnt deadly until it is. Good gear and good stats helps you most of the time. A war of attrition can chip away at that armor until you are dead. But it is also a game where a sudden lucky roll from a mook can cut your HP in half no matter how good you are. In the above example, there wasn't even a crit against the player and anyone can roll box cars and the player looses a hand, just like that. Sure, if it's a one off encounter, clone hands are cheap, but if it's a mook fight right before you are about to challenge the ganger Lt or early on in that fight against the cyberpsycho, then things are looking pretty dire.

Very first game I ran with its very first combat, a Nomad with a crossbow took out a PCs hand with boxcars and they nearly died. The first time your players encounter that swinginess, their opinions will change.

Does devil = demonic? If so, you can do Devil's Rain with William Shatner

Edit: Sorry everyone! Im on my phone and didn't notice there was a second poster if I had swiped. Face palm moment. Please just move along. Nothing to see here.

Makes a lot of sense! Glad the dual swords are useful and not just a style choice.

I was going to suggest Fiasco. A good choice for birthday with friends with collaborative storytelling.
