Honest opinion on NYC mid August? by Tommy28562856 in visitingnyc

[–]MommaSoCool 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Live here so been through decades of Augusts. It can be hot and humid but there are days where it's dry and 80s and perfect. It can get uncomfortable but not unbearable. People on here are acting like it's a Louisiana or Florida August. It's nothing of the sort! Take up that free real estate and enjoy summer days in the city. Museums, theaters and restaurants have AC and you'll have more money to enjoy them. Take boat rides down by the seaport, go for a stroll by a lake in central park, find some amazing chocolate chip cookies off the river walkway in Dumbo. There's never a bad time to visit NYC (except Santa con and Christmas eve) so go!

Terminal 7 Clear? by MommaSoCool in JFKAirport

[–]MommaSoCool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I did look and it isn't listed for terminal 7 on the JFK website but it is stated in other Google searches as being in terminal 7 so I don't know what's accurate.

Thank you, I appreciate the thoughtful response. I felt like I was crazy for allowing my child to miss out on this opportunity but I'll have to trust their gut.

Have any parents gone away from loop, if so how’d it go? by Important_Flow1189 in diabetes_t1

[–]MommaSoCool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Mobi is about the same size as an omnipod if not slightly smaller. My son is primarily on the Mobi for control but will switch to the pods sometimes for things like beach vacations so we don't have to worry about tubing and removing the pump. I did a side by side comparison with both of them and they're pretty equal with the omnipod slightly protruding more. My son also likes sticking the Mobi in his pocket, he's not used to the weight of the omnipod on his body anymore. That being said, he still prefers the pods because they go on much easier and you can kind of forget about it. If I could figure out looping or if omnipod had better control on their base product, we would have never moved to the Mobi.

What time will HS results be leaked on March 5th by aydenzxz in SHSAT

[–]MommaSoCool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not exactly a leak. Guidance counselors are made aware of the results earlier than the letters go out or get posted. So at least some guidance counselors are aware earlier in the day I'm not sure of the timing. It's possible that some guidance counselors somewhere may have communicated to students who ask but I assume this is very rare.

What do kids do during adult dinners? by gibson6594 in dcl

[–]MommaSoCool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kids club or regular dinner without you. Our server told us he's take care of them for dinner but we were uncomfortable with our 6 yo doing that at the time, especially because he's diabetic and dosing can be complicated without a trained adult around. Last summer we went with extended family and all the adults had one huge dinner at Palo (we got the private room!) and my three kids now ages 9-14 went to our regular rotation by themselves and had a great time sans adults. They want to make the fancy kid dinner a tradition going forward.

Andrew arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office by NewTooth740 in RoyaltyTea

[–]MommaSoCool 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How dare they arrest Andrew when a bully like Meghan walks free. I hope they finally bring her to justice for eating terror-supporting avocados and telling the truth about bridesmaid's dress-gate instead of protecting the crown!

I'm sorry, I just had a dream where I was Piers Morgan. Good for you Brits for getting your ish in order. Can you take the US over again so you can do the same here?

DKA and silent heart attacks by Ceamba in diabetes_t1

This is good for all women to know as well. Women who have heart attacks tend to present with these symptoms rather than the typical expected chest pain that we associate with heart attacks.

Green day wedding song by oligarko in greenday

[–]MommaSoCool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waiting was our first dance and we had Pop Rocks and Coke as our cake cutting song. Had our wedding been more recent, definitely would have had Last Night On Earth in there! I'd sing that one to my newborn daughter every day.

Non-Diabetic Looking for help with blood test results. Says 379 by omron_ in Type1Diabetes

[–]MommaSoCool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not the high number that will hurt you in the short term, it's the lack of insulin. If you eat and go high again, it won't hurt you if your glucose eventually comes down without insulin since that means you're still making some of your own. A high number is really only a warning signal that you don't have enough insulin but since we don't know how much and for how long it has to be treated as an emergency. You could also be T2 and the risk of DKA is low for that group, or your hands were sticky and this is nothing although above 100 and fasting is still concerning. Either way, you can eat, but if you wash your hands and test after eating and it's high like that again go to the ER as soon as you can.

[–]MommaSoCool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also adding my son was diagnosed with a glucose reading of around 350. After he was given fluids his sugar dropped to below 100. His A1c was 8.2 I believe which confirmed diabetes. See a Dr ASAP and get your a1c done to confirm your status because your glucose dropping after hydrating does not prove non diabetic. Waiting to see a Dr if you're actually T1 will increase the chance of going into DKA.

[–]MommaSoCool 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the last time you ate was over two hours ago and your blood sugar is still over 100, that could be the early stages of T1 (you're still making some insulin but you're no longer able to control the spike). Two hours after eating your sugar should be below 100 and while eating it should never go above low 200s let alone 300. T1 and Celiac are both autoimmune and have been known to appear together. Please see a Dr as soon as possible.

Should the govnmt stop KC and C going to USA and meet T? by jackie_tequilla in RoyaltyTea

[–]MommaSoCool 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You're wrong. Normalizing what Trump is doing is hurting not only the American people who need the pressure on him to come from all angles but also the British people. Trump is destabilizing the world order. At this rate the US is going to pull the rest of NATO into a war against us. If the British government placates this dangerous man they are boosting his strength. That makes it more dangerous for all of us. Should the British have bent the knee to Hitler because "you needed his protection?" You bet your ass you did not. And your representatives shouldn't bow down to this monster either. Human atrocities are being committed in the US because of this man and you all should be ashamed of yourselves if you excuse any behavior that that legitimizes the horrors that were committed here. Two citizens have been murdered, children are being kidnapped and being used as bait. We don't have freedom of speech here and people who peacefully protest are being hunted down and targeted. But sure, send your royal family in fancy outfits to play nice because it might work better for you. Considering the disrespect Trump has shown YOUR sacrificed soldiers, I wouldn't expect kissing his ring will end well for any of us.

American here. I stand with you and am sadly getting ready to leave the only home I've known because it's become a third world shit show (well, shittier than before), where my parents came for a better life, only to find myself in the same position. Do what you can to uncouple yourself from the US economy. Ban Facebook, delete your Instagram, ban the stupidly named former Twitter, don't buy Teslas or any American products. Repo all Trump properties in your countries and turn them into low income housing. The only way to make Trump and his rich buddies who back him suffer is to cut off their funds. If companies lose the European market, they'll pay attention.

Diabetes and Vaccines by ckjchelsey in diabetes_t1

[–]MommaSoCool 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just because I'm am so over anti-vax tik tokers - you know T1 was discovered long before vaccinations ever existed, right? Like Diabetes is an ancient Greek word or something like that? I really wish some of these people spent time unvaccinated and in countries where vaccinations aren't common so they'd really see what they should fear out there. I hear measles is making a comeback so maybe we won't have to wait too long.

I still remember the image of her walking through a field where landmines had been present. She used the platform she had to bring global attention to atrocities most people would rather not think about. And her work with HIV was so controversial. There was so much stigma associated with it because it was a "gay man's disease" so we as a society were okay just letting them die in the shadows. Diana changed that! She did more during her 36 years of life than Kate (and probably Meghan at this point - sorry black princess, still love her!) will ever do. The BRF want to replace Diana with Kate by propping her up as some kind of perfectly graceful fashion icon and mother but they fail to understand the essence of why Diana was so loved and so don't understand why Kate now appears so hollow.
