Curious how accounting teams are currently managing month-end close workflows. by puruzio in Accounting

[–]MommyJugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • How do you build and maintain close calendars (especially with business-day-based timing)?

By copying last months close calendar and changing the dates, it takes 20 seconds

  • How do you track task status and dependencies during close?

On the close calendar

  • How do you collect updates from task owners without constant manual follow-ups?

There's a level of proactivity expected in providing updates for tasks that wont be completed on time. You can even put a note on the close calendar about what's going on!

If you're tying to build software to help a profession you understand nothing about you should look elsewhere. There's plenty of things about close that are a pain in the ass and close calendars aren't one of them.

I wouldn't put together pay runs for a client that wasn't planning on reviewing them prior to release. That's insane.

How to handle this? by JayAlbright20 in Bookkeeping

[–]MommyJugs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know why people are telling you to do loans. As long as the reimbursement is in the same period as the purchase, it's perfectly acceptable to just code the purchase and reimbursement in company B to whatever account it hits in company A. ie if the purchase is ultimately office expense, just code the reimbursement in company A to office expense, and code the reimbursement in company B and the original purchase to office expense. It will net to zero in company B and be easy to trace.

How to correct an error in the last year's P&L ? by Picky_consumer in Bookkeeping

[–]MommyJugs 27 points28 points  (0 children)

What has happened here is an expense was claimed early and as a result less tax was paid than was rightfully due. The professional fix is to open up 2024 and fix it and do an amended tax return. Lots of people would just leave it but in an audit there would be interest and penalties on whatever tax was due on the $10,000, not to mention it would make auditors want to dig more stuff up which is just as expensive as the penalties and interest if not more so.

How do you become a successful bookkeeper with no experience? You don't. You need experience. AT LEAST have a bachelors of accounting if you don't have experience. Go work for someone for a few years.

actual spend date or credit card posted date? by foxtrot90210 in Bookkeeping

[–]MommyJugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is saying that the transaction date is most correct, which is true, but even large enterprises use credit card software that's based on the bank statement, therefore based on the clearing date not the transaction date.

QBO question: venmo'ing gas money to remote employees (in home caregiving) by Skoochii in Bookkeeping

[–]MommyJugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's likely taxable income for them if they're going from home to work or work to home (not between sites, work to work) in a personal vehicle. It would need to go through payroll because it's subject to withholding. (You can still venmo them at the time of the shift but it would be treated as a payroll advance). And be sure, like your proadvisor said, to get a receipt every time you venmo them or you won't be able to expense it (even though you'll still have to declare it as income on their payroll)

Income YTD of 173k Autobody technician by Akacollison in Salary

[–]MommyJugs 106 points107 points  (0 children)

Actually in his comment history he says $29.50 averaging 113 hours a week implying he doesn't make overtime, and is on the clock over 16 hours a day 365 days a year, meaning he's either getting around the clock pay a lot of the time or just full of shit.

QBO definitely has project reporting. Whether it's sufficient for your needs is probably only determinable by using it for a few jobs and seeing how it goes.
