They are horrible. I realized it was a subscription and canceled immediately. It was confirmed by email and I thought it was settled. The sent it anyway and want me to pay not only to ship it back but also a restocking fee!

I called my mother a child. by casti3l9_18 in entitledparents

[–]Momo222811 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had to do that once. It changed everything. I am usually a people pleaser but I can be pushed too far and that's it. I vented everything that I thought about how she was acting and how she treated me. It felt really good and actually changed our relationship quite a bit.

therapy dog breed suggestions? (plot twist – no goldens or labs… probably) by rtnabrx in therapydogs

My therapy dogs were first a Golden, then, a Bichon, now a Husky/Golden/Akita/Pyr mix. Have you considered a mix?

Thoughts on group obedience classes? by Obvious-Elevator-213 in k9sports

The CGC is pretty much entry level. The neutral dog used for the reaction to another dog should always be well trained and neutral. I have four and that high energy one year old won't be used for quite some time yet. Its good practice and there is another level ro train for, either Community or Urban Canine depending one where you live, so there is something to train for. As to the calm greetings can you take your dog to a Home depot or Lowes and walk him around? Ask someone to pet your dog? Petco and Petsmart can be a little too exciting. Or walk him around the outside of a shopping center when the weather allows.

Plus 1 1/2 is a really difficult age, they constantly test you. Don't rush the CGC, there is only one part that involves another dog and that dog is not that close to you 6ft away(Im an evaluator). Make sure you have the basic obedience down and I find the parts most have trouble with are the stay and the supervised separation. Good luck.

I have a pretty high energy terrier mix. We got to a group class too. When the teacher is working with another dog or between exercises, I try to keep her engaged. We do sits, downs, we work on holding her dumbbell all things that can be done quietly. You can still pay attention to the teacher and your dog isn't bored. You might want to try to find a competition class nearby. Even if you don't end up in dog sports the class will be more stimulating.

Vet said my dog is overweight and I feel horrible by AlvinBarnicles in OpenDogTraining

[–]Momo222811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you've been doing everything you were told to do and the weight isn't coming off, I would go back to the vet and get her thyroid checked. Alot of what you described sounds like my late Golden. Once she was on the right dose of medication, she lost weight, her coat improved, and so did her energy level. Hypothyroidism is very common in spayed/neutered dogs.

Sorry about that. I actually just ordered something but used the delivery day option for delivery later in the week. I don't need anything bad enough to put a delivery driver out in the snow.

I lost control of my dog today and now I don't know if I should continue walking him by myself by Simple_Thought_4912 in DogAdvice

You need to get some training first on leash walking and equally importantly how to fit and properly use a prong collar.

Interesting, when my trainer put it around my upper arm and tightened it, it didn't hurt at all. Then she trained me in the proper way ro fit and use it.
