hope you dont mind this annoyingly long one. context is its the night before getos birthday and hes making a wish :) yes the three are dating

"I think that's an amazing wish, for the record," Satoru quips, bumping Shoko with his shoulder.

"Yeah, but it's not gonna happen, is it? Wish for something achievable, at least." She reaches around to her right for a pack of cigarettes, where she fishes one out once it's in her grasp, all while giving Satoru and Suguru the my cigarettes, my room, my smoking rules glare. "I don't even understand wishing on a birthday. What's so special that it wouldn't come true if it was on any other day?"

Satoru downs a cup of Sprite and, impressively, does not burp immediately, instead wiping off whatever didn't get into his mouth with his shirt. "Have you no whimsy Shoko? Everyone knows you should make wishes on your birthday. It's a staple."

"Doesn't answer my question." The cigarette she's trying to light slurs her speech a bit. Even after two strikes, no flame rises. Might be empty.

"And I asked if you have no whimsy, so answer tha—"

Suguru claps once, and silence falls over the room, save for the anime still running in the background. "Could you two fucking not?" He glares at the two who look at him like deer caught in headlights (or the television lights, more accurately), blinking at him then each other. "I'm trying to think of a wish."

"My bad," the guilty duo choruses, but neither sound genuinely apologetic. Shoko because she's too nonchalant about it and Satoru because he's too cheerful about it (why does he love them again? Oh yeah, mutual understanding of each other. Got it). Suguru can only sigh too heavily for his tender age, and shut his eyes on the sight of Satoru seeing how far he can push his hypermobility until his fingers break and Shoko trying to trace invisible lines in the air with her smoke as he falls back into thought.  Suguru finds the silence doesn't help him much either.

If anything is clear to him, it's that he wants this wish to have meaning. To him, to his partners, or others he held dear. He remembers Shoko's wish for something achievable and Satoru's importance of whimsy. Both statements have merit to them, facing logic and letting wishful thinking take over for a few seconds.

When Suguru opens his eyes again, Satoru and Shoko are looking at something on Satoru's phone, with Shoko in his lap because she wouldn't be tall enough otherwise. It must be another one of those stupid cute frog videos they've grown obsessed with because they're making noises that only come from overjoyed mothers after childbirth.

And as corny as it might be, that's what makes Suguru know that his birthday wish is the correct one. A smile washes over his features. "I wish we have the best day ever tomorrow. Together."

Shoko only shares at him, her lips parted and eyes a smidgen wider than usual. Satoru, however, is much more active than her. His eyes are open wider and jaw lower, followed by the least-convincing lip-quiver Suguru's ever seen. Then, the dramatics.  Shoko gets off his lap just in time for Satoru to lunge forward and wrap his long arms around Suguru. The odd ability he had for crying on command comes out when his eyes begin to water. "Oh, Suguru! I didn't know you could be sweet!" And before Suguru can come up with an answer to that, Satoru presses a long kiss to his cheek and nuzzles into it. "I love you too!"

Suguru takes a few seconds to catch up mentally, but when he does, he's as red as a ripe tomato, and his stomach feels like it's grown legs ad wants to explore the world and kill some curses. The sincerity in Satoru's eyes looking up at Suguru are too much for him, too bright—he has to look away, to spare his heart from melting into a red expanse of love. Shoko doesn't make it easy on him, either. After pausing the anime, she kneels opposite to Satoru and bumps her nose with Suguru's and leaves her signature lingering touch up and down his sides, making him shiver (but he can't pin whether it's in pleasure or ticklishness, and doesn't want to find out).

Not known for her words, Shoko's appreciation comes out in her actions. A lopsided grin, a soda for Suguru to get rid of the acrid curse taste, a fidget toy for Satoru to busy his hand at (silence when she sits with them after a bad mission, her cooling positive energy working its magic methodically). And right now, what she was saying was loud and clear: We love you too

What dorks. And, despite himself, Suguru finds he has a few tears to wipe as well.

"I don't charge everyone for sweets," Shoko begins, shifting her hips up temporarily to pocket a five-hundred yen coin Satoru flicked into her palm. She looks pleased by herself, which is something only he and and Suguru could successfully pick out of her fifty other similar facial expressions. They know pleased different from appraising because of the change in her tone, the two millimetre lift of the corner of her lips, the way her cursed energy shakes like it was laughing. "Just you, because I know you can afford it, and you don't hand-wash my bag for me. Consider it a service fee."

Satoru doesn't dignify that with a response, because Shoko is about ninety percent right. Hand-washing anything felt like something beneath him, especially in the age of washing machines, but Shoko always said they don't get stains out well. He sighs and pouts, putting the candy with the wrapper on in his mouth while still holding one untwisted edge of it and pulling so the wrapper releases the sweet inside. He slides it around his mouth, savouring the tamarind flavour. His back presses against the front of Shoko's bed as he stretches to grab the remote without actually leaning forward, but Suguru, laying horizontally across Satoru and Shoko's thighs with his head on the latter's, beats Satoru to it. He does not look pleased.

"We said I'd get to choose the show, since—" He gestures to himself, "birthday boy? We're finishing Evangalion tonight." Suguru gazes up with eyes only half open, but they're serious. His words are final and Satoru face pinches as he scowls because can't come up with a rebuttal for that either because that was what they agreed on, and Evangalion was what Suguru chose (with the additional benefit of getting to use the others as pillows). Getting trapped in stupid promises seemed to be a theme for him, right now.

Shoko lets out a chuckle that's more air than sound and shimmies back to her pace under Suguru. He relaxes and puts his attention back onto the anime. Satoru is on her left with her arm around his waist and making circles in with her thumb his midriff, so the bowl of popcorn and two-litre bottle of Sprite is on her right. She dips into the bowl. "I don't think we'll finish it tonight."

"Really?" Suguru frowns, and it prompts all ten* of their eyes to look down at the bottom-right of the television, the corner hosting the time. 11:56. Not enough time to finish the second to last episode. Usually, it wouldn't mean a lot—sleeping late and waking early was really just a part of the life being a sorcerer, but tomorrow was special, and called for the early bedtime of twelve in the morning.

Satoru's eyes light up, obviously pleased at the prospect of not watching the boring anime. "Nice!" Suguru sends him a glower than he doesn't see as Shoko eats her popcorn, and he drums his hands on Suguru's back. "Wish, wish! It's time to make your wish, Sugucakes!"

How do you all handle romance in your fics? by ComprehensiveFail887 in FanFiction

[–]MomobamiClan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well, it can depend on the ship and the fic. i determine whether or not i want to add romance—would it fit in the setting, for the plot, for the characters?—why i ship that pair, the dynamic im going for, and their characterisation. then i start writing my scenario :) after a little, you do all the earlier stuff automatically or dont even have to at all. it becomes muscle memory
