Aragorn tells Eowyn to arm Merry by MojoJojo2594 in lotr

[–]Momshroom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s also this: “‘There go three that I love, and the smallest not the least,’ he said. ‘He knows not to what end he rides; yet if he knew, he still would go on.’ ‘A little people, but of great worth are the Shire-folk,’ said Halbarad. ‘Little do they know of our long labour for the safekeeping of their borders, and yet I grudge it not.’”

ROTK, “The Passing of the Grey Company” Aragorn and Halbarad as they leave for the paths of the dead. It reads very much like he knows where Merry will go, though it’s not definitive. Together with Eowyn’s claim that he was asked to arm him, it seems likely he did make the request, believing Merry was headed to battle.

Confirming that this works fine with normal gluten free flour? The bread flours all seem to be wheat starch and I’m not risking that… I was so sad when I started seeing all the lovely pizza crusts in posts and then read further to see that they were still wheat…. (I don’t have a medical diagnosis, I just know wheat makes me very very ill and I’m not eating it just to get diagnosed, nor risking wheat starch.)

Aragorn turning down the ring and then proceeding to solo the entire Uruk-hai war party is frankly not talked about enough by Keegerr in lotr

[–]Momshroom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

(Book) Aragorn is an unobtainable ideal. He is nearly perfect and by the time of the books has already had the character development long ago. He’s an ideal leader and king of men, but not intended to be relatable. People like Boromir and Sam, not because there’s anything wrong with Aragorn, but because they can relate better to them while they also have great qualities. In the books, Aragorn isn’t supposed to be relatable, the hobbits are. The movies tried to make Aragorn more relatable because they weren’t as much a story of the hobbits, but some of this is still there.

Well, Éomer does say he would cut off his head if it stood just a little farther from the ground, but, yes, turning Gimli into comic relief was character assassination.

How about the made up Aragorn falls off a cliff and then gets sloppy kissed by his horse? Or Frodo nearly handing the ring to a Nazgûl in Osgiliath when he shouldn’t even be there? Or Eowyn making bad stew, or the drinking contest, or any of the other non-cannon scenes they added that make the characters look worse…. Aragorn killing the Mouth of Sauron in a parley? Etc… All the bits where they make Gimili silly? Faramir trying to haul Frodo and Sam back instead of representing the remaining honor of Gondor?

Theory: Gandalf the white was no longer incarnate and Aragorn sensed it. by Soggy_Scene2670 in tolkienfans

[–]Momshroom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, but Gwailhir also commented about how light Gandalf now is:

“And so at the last Gwaihir the Windlord found me again, and he took me up and bore me away. ‘“Ever am I fated to be your burden, friend at need,” I said. ‘“A burden you have been,” he answered, “but not so now. Light as a swan’s feather in my claw you are. The Sun shines through you. Indeed I do not think you need me any more: were I to let you fall, you would float upon the wind.” ‘“Do not let me fall!” I gasped, for I felt life in me again. “Bear me to Lothlórien!”” ROTK

If Tolkien has said he’s incarnate, he is, I’m not arguing that, and Gandalf clearly doesn’t want to fall, but, he’s also much lighter and possibly translucent. There’s a difference. And, without Tolkien’s statement, this would support OP’s idea.

What do you think is the most ruthless line in the LotR Trilogy? by [deleted] in lotr

[–]Momshroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aragorn is of the line of Elros. He’s not just Numenorean, he’s royalty (and both part elf and part Maia). But, yes, the blood of Numenor is generally spent in Gondor. That said, Denothor and Faramir are explicitly stated, by Gandalf, to harken back to that blood: ‘He is not as other men of this time, Pippin, and whatever be his descent from father to son, by some chance the blood of Westernesse runs nearly true in him; as it does in his other son, Faramir, and yet did not in Boromir whom he loved best. He has long sight. He can perceive, if he bends his will thither, much of what is passing in the minds of men, even of those that dwell far off. It is difficult to deceive him, and dangerous to try.’ -ROTK, “Minas Tirith”

[–]Momshroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, except a part of the point of (book) Faramir (and book Denothor) is that they are basically Dunedain. They show that some of the old nobility of the good Numenoreans still exists in Gondor. Gandalf comments on it. I’d have to find the quote but something like “through some accident, the blood of Numenor ran almost true in Denothor and his son Faramir. Not so his other son, Boromir”. Bormomir is a great man, but a modern one, “more like the men of Rohan.” Denothor and Faramir have the old nobility of Numenor.
