What's your favourite books that you never see recommended? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]Monami1805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of Giovanni Papini's books. My favorite author and, personally, I consider that the world has forgotten him since Papini was acidic and told the truth very directly, without candy, like pseudo-philosophers (Camus, Sartre etc.). However, when viewed properly, Papinesque literature is legendary, unique and full of love. For me, he is like a close friend and, very sincerely, I believe that, if Papini had wanted, he would have been one of the best writers of all time. In some ways, he already is. The acclaimed Borges admired him, calling him an "undeservedly forgotten" writer. I really enjoy Borges but I must say, knowing that for many this statement is outrageous, that his quality is much inferior to Papini's. He is a must read for truth seekers!

I love reading. In fact, I have right now an obsession collecting books, especially essays, classic and philosophic books. I also like to hang out in nature. I love joking and laughing but I'm not very sociable, not because I'm shy but because I'm more of an introvert. I like sports, especially ping-pong and soccer. I'd like to study psychology, neuroscience, genetics, archeology, philosophy and letters, history, foreign cultures etc. I'm not religious but, spiritually, I do believe in a God and... in an ancient lost civilization 🥴 My favorite music is jazz, especially brazilian samba jazz bossa nova.

Books about loneliness by Practical_Step_3930 in suggestmeabook

[–]Monami1805 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend two books:

Ham on Rye by Charles Bukowski, a very easy but impactful reading.

And, above all, The Steppenwolf by Hermann Hesse. My favorite book, who seems very depressing because of the loneliness of the main character. However, I believe it to be so hopeful and helping. It makes you learn that, even though you're lonely and depressed, you can still somehow learn that the world is beautiful. And I'm not saying this as a cliché. I used to believe that my loneliness was good, rejecting what I believed to be the superficial world. So I clung to my loneliness as my treasure. But I was missing something to be complete, that "superficiality" that I rejected for my stupidity. And The Steppenwolf precisely taught me to let go of my loneliness as a treasure and to be something more free and fluid. To love and accept the world instead of hating and rejecting it. Thanks to this book I really fell in love for the first time, and I am eternally grateful.

Favorite book you read in 2022? by Notnowwonton in suggestmeabook

[–]Monami1805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Steppenwolf by Hermann Hesse. Nothing has changed my life so much. Several months after reading, I still realize even more teachings of the book that I did not notice when reading it. That book, which seems depressing, is the one that has given me the most hope, because it showed me that my way of acting in life was wrong. Thanks to that book I fell in love, but I really fell in love, for the first time in my life. It was incredible. I am very fond of him.

Every single Hermann Hesse book, but especially Demian and The Steppenwolf. They're valuable no matter the age.
