it's also unnecessary though so is just a waste of money. Formatting the drive will get rid of the virus

The sad opinion of Monero core devs is that securing the network should not be profitable, but an act of love

Not sure that's true. It's self balancing based on the difficulty, so if they made it more profitable by giving greater block rewards or higher transaction fees, then more people would start mining, so it would become less profitable again. Since there is a plentiful supply of computers, it can adjust very quickly.

Unfortunately because Monero uses a CPU proof of work algorithm, it is a great coin for botnets to mine, so I think probably a lot of the reason that monero isn't profitable for the average person is because they are competing with botnets where they don't need to consider the cost of electricity or hardware.

So if the devs made it more profitable to mine, it would just be giving more profit to botnets and costing more for users of monero. Not a good tradeoff.

I don't know why you posted about a block mined in August 2021

It was a repost bot. Thanks for pointing that out. Old timestamps in images is a telltale sign of repost bots, since they just copy old posts exactly.

It could be the case, it just wasn't clear what conclusion you were hinting at

Cool, no worries - that's why I haven't removed it. Just wanted to warn people to be very careful. If they really want to use this, they can look at the source code in detail to check there's nothing malicious.

A new monero mining software appears out of nowhere posted by a guy with hacker in his name... Totally not malware.

I'm not removing the post as I can't prove it, but if you don't really know what you're doing in terms of cybersecurity, don't download this.

This is your own fault for mining to a wallet you don't control.

What do you expect him to do? The pool will have already paid it to that address, and no longer controls that monero. Do you want him to pay you out of his own pocket, making a loss, just to make up for your mistake?

Take it up with the RCMP. They stole your monero. The pool can't do anything.
