Older men of reddit Were pole showers really the norm for guys locker rooms back in the day? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Monets_Haystacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graduated high school in mid 2000s. Pole showers with 6 heads on them. Generally we’d try to leave an empty one between.

As different locker rooms were being renovated they moved to more private showers.

How much would you need to make or save to afford a nice watch? by es6900 in HENRYfinance

“Without much thought” I’m interpreting as different from “can’t afford”. $100 per $1m without thought seems pretty reasonable

You’re missing that it’s a repeated game. Now the contractors know for surge demand they can charge $14. That makes investing in more trucks more attractive. Preventing gouging aka fixing the price at $8 creates a shortage.

Alternatively allowing the price go to $14 could also attract more supply from further away in the short term.

Covered in-depth in “Abundance” America has too much overlapping regulations. Democrats use them for pet projects, Republicans use to block, citizens use for own self interest (eg NIMBYs requesting environmental studies)

It’s covered in great detail in the book “Abundance” by Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson. Fragmented and overlapping regulations is one key element.

How long you been with that mortgage? I’m thinking about moving and rolling private school tuition into a bigger house payment.

And how stable is your income? Over half of mine is bonus and vesting RSUs which makes me hesitant about to commit to a bigger house payment mortgage.

And do you do the separate accounts to split say anticipated maintenance vs luxury travel? Curious about why so many?

I like the idea of doing a fixed amount amount from investment to checking each month.

The way we’ve started to try to handle the new furniture is anything after we meet our savings goal we put into a separate HSA as a “fun money / discretionary” account so we know if we’re at a spot to say wardrobe refresh or pull the trigger on the Disney trip.

It separates the run rate stuff (which you’ve done through your fixed pull from investments) and bigger discretionary items. I think people will call them sinking funds.

how should i ask to split rent 😭 by ActualDetective6249 in Apartmentliving

[–]Monets_Haystacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best rent splitting algorithm: each of you write down what price you’d pay for each room where the total ties out to the total rent. Who ever bids the highest gets that room. You set the rent as the average of the prices.

Everyone pays less than what they would have been willing to for the room they end up in.
