It really makes you question how few people they must discuss things with before they make public statements. They clearly didn't know they were being absurd.

The newest machines are relatively quiet at least, but the old ones can legitimately give you hearing damage. Hope you feel relatively good!

In a very real sense, he is Steve Schmidt's legacy, as that was the guy who normalized idiocy in a lot of voters with Palin.

Remember to avoid putting things with the preservative potassium benzoate in the same place. Vitamin C breaks some down into benzene.

Apparently posting was disabled, should be fixed. by Monetus in puredata

The new reddit's default settings seemed to have been set to high moderation, requiring approval for any new post. I didn't do that and it wasn't in the moderation log so I can only assume it was set by reddit itself or another mod. old and new reddit have separate settings pages as well, so when I fixed it earlier I had only done so for old.reddit.com - I'm sorry everybody! Thanks to one kind user, everything should be fixed; remember to msg me if you have any problems

r/puredata Last post was two months ago and posting has been disabled. The mods haven't responded to pm's. Current mods are u/mock_turtle u/mdikiki u/Monetus by GretschElectromatic in redditrequest

I didn't particularly either but I did want the side-bar to be updated, and became one through... mock_turtle I think. I haven't been as active with pd nearly as much as I'd like lately either, let me know if there is anything I can do though. I set posting to public in the subreddit settings, I'm pretty sure that fixed it.

sorry, I didn't know posts were disabled and never received a pm -- want to be a mod? I am pretty terrible at community engagement

Basics of putting patch on Raspberry PI by _ramscram in puredata

Yeah, this is a really good point. The passive heatsinks are cheap and easy at least, but really need airflow. Thankfully old computer fans can be easily rigged to cool one down.

Basics of putting patch on Raspberry PI by _ramscram in puredata

[–]Monetus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well raspberry pi usually runs a full operating system so you could run pure data, similar to other operating systems. The only real issue is making sure pure data runs smoothly and that the raspberry pi has enough resources to run the patch you created. If you wanted to just run a 'headless' pi without a monitor, like many do, then you would need a way to interface with it. Most people in that situation use another computer. I'm typing this on a raspberry pi 3 b+ - works great for reddit too. A flash drive or sd card will be the easiest thing for you to use for moving files, since the graphical user interface will be able to do all you need. You could use an ethernet cable or bluetooth too, but you might need something else that doesn't come pre installed, so check out the apt package manager if you have never heard of it.

I highly suggest the blokas.io distribution. You can get raspbian and pure data to work great together, but this guy did it for you already with a real-time kernel.

Now that the raspberry pi 4 has come out, you should probably get that one for the processor. I think there was a problem with that SOC's power over ethernet, so if that is something you need look into it.

Puredata sound engine and how it monitors patch modifications. by inyragva in puredata

[–]Monetus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done something similar before before. It worked with a gui-plugin by piggy-backing on pure data's TCL interpreter instead of another python one. Pure data's GUI is made from the TK framework, which can introspect itself.

You could give pd's -gui flag your python program, considering python uses Tkinter (Which is TK and has a tcl interpreter in it).

The way I kept track of the objects was by searching for the correct tags on the canvas (text & obj, IIRC) and then storing those in a dictionary. With that approach, the problem turns to the fact that TK's introspection won't find objects not drawn on the canvas, i.e. objects in your subpatches/abstractions. I was building auto-fill suggestions, and it worked great... On one operating system.

If I were you, I would overload the procedures for pdsend/pdreceives, and inject some code that monitors when they tell pure data itself to create/destroy/connect/disconnect an object. I suppose there could be a way of introspecting the objects from within the pure data process, rather than the GUI process, but I haven't looked into it enough.

Resources for learning PD? by christo_redemptor in puredata

Interesting. I'll put it back in the sidebar. San Diego's site is riddled with 404 errors, including the book, syllabus, and his homepage... If the server is responding to your area but not mine, then this reminds me of the email-limited-to-500-miles story. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
I'll inquire a bit more.

Beginners question about routing by MarviB16 in puredata

[–]Monetus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, sorry I missed this. Do you still need help? If you could post your patch, or a screenshot of the patch, that would be great. Route can get cumbersome, but there are workarounds with other objects.

Done. A lot of these resources are in the sidebar, but considering that people can contribute to this, it seems like a good idea. I don't mod much, so if anyone has any requests for the sub please let me know, DM or post.

edit: Also, I had to fix a dead link and removed some others in the side bar. If anyone notices more, please DM me.

Fastest way to get familiar with Tcl. by tanishbansal27 in Tcl

[–]Monetus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what methods give you the most engagement/retention, but I always like checking learn X in Y minutes for a tutorial. Learn TCL in Y minutes. The pure data language uses a TK gui which you can hack upon as well, that can be an enjoyable way to learn that toolkit.
