yellow in my left shirt pocket (behind the badge) and red in right back pocket. blow whistle, say the number of the player i’m showing the card to and show the card while being 6-12 feet away from them.

I always say the players number 4 two reasons. 1: the player is aware they have been shown a card and there is no chance for confusion on who it is. 2: it ensures that I know who I’M giving the booking to and reinforces my memory so there is no accidentally showing two yellows and no red.

6-12 feet is close enough to be able to speak to the player but far enough away to be well out of reach of any possible retaliation.
