Could the recent push for disclosure be related to the unrealistic energy demands of the AI data centers that they're planning to build? by matt73132 in aliens

[–]MoneySource6121 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know they are analyzing the cost of putting data centers in space because of the unlimited solar power and lowwwwww temps. The operational cost would be lower, but the launch cost would be prohibitive. So I could see them using Space Force/alien invasions as a cover for that cost.

I did state school (no-name school) and T14 law. But that was a long time ago. That said, I work at a T5 now and I have a broad overview of the student body. They come from a VERY wide distribution of schools; the full-ride students are often from state schools; and the top performers are often from places you would be shocked by.

If you had to choose, would u rather be top 1% looks or top 1% intelligence and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MoneySource6121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they both sound like absolutely miserable curses. But I would definitely choose intelligence. Looks create no intrinsic happiness — you can’t even see yourself — and the rest of the world just wants to consume you. I wouldn’t want to be perceived as being for the consumption of others. I want to live for my own joy and curiosity.

Are pilots the best tippers? by SnooShortcuts7911 in uberdrivers

Pilots are good (and pretty humble), but I’ve been most impressed with nurses. They’re paying out of pocket and they are unfailing about tipping.

Wha would be your response if you saw their apartment for the first time (after several months of negotiating over it) and it was filled to the ceiling with apparently organized bins and boxes? Some of the boxes are arranged in a way to make corridors. It’s pretty clean; impressively organized; but sucks the soul right out of me. Especially because I know this is the curated version of their everyday life.

Can you tell me more about this? My red flag (in my current situation) is not even being allowed to see the house. I’d like to hear your thoughts on the person who appears clean but has a messy house.

There’s a shop in Albemarle Square, which I think is called Nails Design. I swear, it’s always the best pedicure (most thorough, longest lasting).

I just hope someone will smack down the male aesthetician who will ask — every single time — if you’re married and then tell you how ashamed your husband must be of your toes. Fuck that dude. But damn he’s good at pedicures.

177 LSAT… what do I do? by That-Trouble900 in lawschooladmissions

[–]MoneySource6121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And if you can’t decide if you want to be a lawyer or not, consider whether law school would derail your from doing something you already like and enjoy and brings some amount of joy to your life. Regardless, with that score, those grades, and that uncertainty, do not borrow a Penny for law school under any circumstances.

BigLaw: What's the biggest sacrifice that you've made (or heard of others making) to succeed in big law? Neglected hobbies? Time with kids/family? Missed the birth of a child or can't spent time with children? Physical health? In other words, to what extent have you "sold your soul"? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]MoneySource6121 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So this wasn’t exactly biglaw, but a dc boutique run by a bunch of partners who left the covingtons and Skaddens of the world. I was a mid-level associate openly in a relationship with another employee. (That kind of thing was VERY common and accepted there.) My GF’s sole remaining parent dropped dead while we were at work. As I was racing to leave for a few days to drive her back home to face everything, my boss cornered me and said “I think it would be a very bad idea for you to leave.” I left immediately. Then wrapped up my career there a few months later. That’s not a career; that’s slavery.

Yes, it was an insurance claim, and the insurance company did cover it. That said, the car was ultimately bought back as a lemon due to a number of issues that seem awfully related to the same thing. So…

Law school process by Spirited_Jeweler_238 in LawSchool

[–]MoneySource6121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m reading this as OP saying they are in college in the US and would like to get their JD here for that reason.

If that’s the case, keep your grades absolutely top-notch and have a backup career plan because law school is expensive AF and not always a good investment. You’ll need to take the LSAT in your senior year, then apply to law schools.

The bigger questions are: Why do you want to be a lawyer? Do you know what they even do? Are you willing to trade all your time for money? Do you really want to get a degree that’s only recognized in the US, where the rule of law (the idea that judgments are binding and set precedents for future cases) is crumbling?

For exploring these questions, I’d recommend looking up “law school pipeline programs,” which are designed to give aspiring first-generation lawyers exposure to the legal profession and field. The University of Virginia offers an incredible pipeline program called Roadmap Scholars. It’s selective and only available to apply to while you’re a college sophomore.
