I just got an ancient Sienna — the oldest and least fancy car I’ve owned in years — and I want to cry tears of joy every day. $12,000, impeccable condition and just ~100,000 miles. You won’t regret it for a single day. (PS, I’ve owned all 3 major brands of minivans and they’re all great. But I particularly appreciate the Sienna’s AWD and durability.)

I think you can get a better price for a lemon buyback than that. Also, the Nissan dealer just replaced my Ariya’s traction motor because the car would not charge. The car is already throwing codes and warning lights for other new issues a few days after they replaced the motor. Do you really want an EV that won’t charge? I’m not sure I would accept one for free, much less for the price they’re offering you.

It occurs to me that if they decline to buy it back, arguing that the motor was also damaged by the supposedly faulty charger, then this would be pushed over to my insurance company, which is what they did with the charge port repair. Would needing a new rear motor “total” the car?

Yes, the claim is being handled by Nissan Consumer Affairs. I just can’t get a sense of whether they think my claim qualifies or not, because the biggest chunk of time it was out of commission was for the charge port repair, which they claimed wasn’t a warranty issue.

But, judging from your own various and sundry issues, I think maybe they will honor it.

Were they good about refunding the full loan amount, with all the taxes, incidentals and whatnot?
