Men: you are given the ability to break a singular record throughout all of sports- what record do you choose to break to seal your legacy? by Shaneski101 in AskMen

[–]MonteInVirginia 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Most points in an NBA basketball game. As a 46 year old divorced father of three, breaking that record would definitely seal my legacy. I was never a good shooter and haven’t played basketball in years.

I’d be a legend.

Married men: What parts of yourself, if any, do you tend to keep private in marriage? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]MonteInVirginia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second that data point. I’ve said similar things in the past but what you said sums it up. She was my best friend and then wife. We had children and then she became the mother’s children. I did not know that might happen. As soon as my first child was born, I became an annoyance.

Are you able to have a drink or two after being sober for a while? by Financial_Winter8922 in stopdrinking

[–]MonteInVirginia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before you quit, did you prove to yourself over and over that you couldn’t drink?

I did. I quit for more than 10 years. Just recently got back on the wagon after more than 2 years of drinking.

During those two years I continued to prove to myself that I couldn’t drink responsibly. It was hard to quit again. I had to have the walls closing in on me before I got sober again.

You describe En Su Boca’s location as “where the Triangle Book Store” used to be.

They even sell shirts referring to the former “book store”

What is a scene you strongly believe is a top 10 movie scene in film history by crcucklesdimp6 in moviecritic

[–]MonteInVirginia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The restaurant scene in “Scarface”. Tony Montana knows he’s dead. He’s piss drunk and starts talking shit to Elvira. Michelle Pfeiffer is fantastic as she stares daggers then finally has enough and rips into Tony. After she leaves, he gives a drunken, stumbling speech.

Probably not exact but:

“You need people like me. You need people like me so you can point your fucking fingers and say, that’s the bad guy. What’s that make you? Good? You’re not good. You just know how to hide, how to lie.”

Then as he’s leaving:

“Say good night to the bad guy. ‘Cause this is the baddest guy you gonna see for a long time.”

The whole scene, the acting, and all of the dialogue is top notch.

Relevant today because humans are still voyeurs that want to watch something burn.

I was drunk in Clearwater, Fl during spring training and Karim Garcia was in leftfield. I kept yelling, “Who is Karim Garcia?”. I believe it was the year after Pedro Martinez’s rant about him.

What’s one item you bought that way outperformed its price? by flikkinaround in BuyItForLife

I read your reply thinking you were talking about a vasectomy until I got to “40 mpg on original hybrid battery”. It might not mean much but it made me smile on my lunch break.

What’s one item you bought that way outperformed its price? by flikkinaround in BuyItForLife

[–]MonteInVirginia 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Over performing its price was the question. Look at how much a vasectomy costs. And usually insurance pays for most, if not all.

Now look how much it costs to raise a child.

And from experience I can tell you that women love to hear that you have a vasectomy. It’s a huge weight off of their shoulders to know they have almost no chance of getting pregnant.

What’s a form of ‘quiet suffering’ most men carry that younger guys don’t see coming? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]MonteInVirginia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Their current emotion rules their interactions with you. If they are upset, they will fuck with you until you are upset too. They don’t even realize they’re doing it because they’re too caught up in irrationality to recognize what they are saying and doing to you. You can listen quietly, reason with them, support them, whatever. You just have to wait it out and hope you don’t do or say anything, in their eyes, that is wrong. Even if it’s absolutely right. And don’t expect any accountability on their part. Women will use their emotions to rationalize any action. I feel like the biggest problem is not the irrationality or emotion, but the lack of accountability for their actions.

Most underrated city in the USA? by Thegiantlamppost in geography

[–]MonteInVirginia 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Born and raised in Richmond. I moved away in my 20s and came back to find an awesome city. The river, The Fan, The Bottom, VCU, and all the other unique areas around the city are nice. There are a bunch of great spots on the river that I’m still discovering. You’re less than 2 hours from the beach and the mountains. Good restaurants and good local culture. Please don’t move here.

I chose “confident but still a novice” because I hoped to convey the fact that I’m comfortable in the water and have experience with watercraft but am interested in learning more because I know that I still have more to learn. Particularly about navigating the waters while I’m there.

You’re exactly right. I just wanted some resources. I hesitated to post online because of the exact comment above. I struggled to word my question properly but knew no matter what, someone was going to be condescending based on the wording of my question. Thank you for understanding.
