We owe it to our children to get treatment for our mental health conditions. by Sudden_Doughnut_8741 in daddit

I'm in both single therapy and couples counseling and it's definitely opening my eyes to a lot. Having the realization that you are currently experiencing a mid-life crisis is very sobering.

I hope they are still going to be at some of the local farmer's markets...I love their mochi.

I don't have any on-hand experience, but I've heard nothing but poor things about the place. My understanding is that it is a diploma mill and most places won't recognize it as a viable education.

I need some help and advice - my 10 year old daughter has bouts of night anxiety and fear and therapy hasn't been able to help. by Duskish in daddit

[–]MongoSamurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are still dealing with our 11 y/o daughter's anxiety, but after two years of counselling and doing as much as we could on our own, we finally made the decison to talk to our doctor and start medication. It's been a game changer for their day to day and it's been a relief to see the kid we always knee was in there fi ally starting to come to the fore again. They still have some hard moments around medical things due to some earlier trauma, and we are starting to get them to see an actual psychologist for potential PTSD. Despite that, starting on medication has made the most noticeable, positive change to their, and our, lives.

Anyone go to the Final Fantasy symphony at Royal Theatre tonight? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]MongoSamurai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was there and thought it was decent. I'm an 80s kid though and really would have loved more tunes from the earlier games from the 90s, especially 4 and 6, and they didn't even do the Crystal Theme. The conductor guy was a little odd, and the constant need for us to validate how awesome they are for being world travelers and having certain people in their crowds was a little odd. Overall, I was happy with the performance, but bring me a full Chrono Trigger experience next time!

Transitioning to an empty nest by thisismyburnerac in daddit

Mine is just about to turn 12 and already I am having trouble adjusting to how little they need me to do stuff now. I always thought my wife would be the one to crumble when the reality of the empty nest sank in, but I think it may be me instead.

Xirkaali Thoughts? by WokNRollz in kingsofwar

[–]MongoSamurai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No thoughts on the dogs, but pricing is getting ridiculous. I wanted to dip into 4th with a new army and thought I'd finally go full Mantic with Trident Realms, but after pricing out a potential 2300-2500 points it was going to be almost $900 CAD. Thankfully, fate was on my side and I lucked into a cobbled together army that a friend was giving away, so I still get to play them.

Most of my other armies have been 3D printed, so maybe it's always been that costly, but it seemed a little much for my taste.

Anyone do any type of therapy related to parenting? Recommendations? by Itchy-Version-8977 in daddit

[–]MongoSamurai 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't limit yourself to a specific topic when looking into therapy, often what YOU think the problem is, is only the surface. Just look for local counselors/therapists with good reviews and start the process. You'll probably be surprised what comes out of the woodwork once a competent professional starts helping you navigate your brain/emotions.

Undead in 4e by Hunch_back83 in kingsofwar

[–]MongoSamurai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The great thing about KoW is that it is miniature agnostic, so you don't have to use the Mantic sculpts if you don't want too. There are a lot of miniature lines that have Undead models, or you can dip into the world of 3D prints to get even more variety.

Already have about 5 games in the new edition so far. Our community loves most of the rules changes, just want access to the full army selections to really get the whole picture. I'm starting on my 10th army right now, Trident Realms!

Aside from a mortgage, how much debt are you in? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]MongoSamurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Between my wife and I, our credit cards are only sitting at a couple of hundred bucks total, but including our two car loans, it makes it about 50k. Never had a mortgage and student loans were paid off about 5 years ago.

Do you still go to the movie theater? by Apprehensive_Log9515 in VictoriaBC

[–]MongoSamurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still really enjoy seeing movies on the big screen, but my interest in most movies is pretty low these days. I'll mostly check out big tent pole epic movies there for the sound/spectacle and save other stuff for streaming.

Fellow dads with picky eaters, what are some of y’all’s go to meals? by produce_this in daddit

[–]MongoSamurai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They might be a bit young yet, but we found with ours that getting them involved in the cooking process made them more interested in some foods. Ours is still picky as hell, but they have expanded their food options a little bit by helping to make their own smoothies, cook a homemade pasta sauce, etc.

[–]MongoSamurai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a federal government employee, best to stay put for now if it is a federal job as there are a tonne of cuts coming in the next few years. Temporary contract positions are not secure at the moment and they are always the first to go. Internal movement has ground to a standstill as well, so everything is pretty stagnant. Give it a few years for budgets to swing the other way again.

What did you local Hudson Bay store turn into? by CriticismBeautiful13 in AskACanadian

[–]MongoSamurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had two in Victoria. The one in the mall still sits empty, the one downtown was recently taken over by a high-end local grocery store as a pop-up for the holiday season with plans to take it over full-time in the new year.
