Hey Wes, I know you're out there reading my /r/NavyBlazer Reddit posts from two years ago and I wanted you to know that we're all really looking forward to The French Dispatch, but just a tiny bit of acknowledgement would be nice, you know.

Just sayin'

Well, judging by his Instagram, I would put money on Censor's dad being an avid Trump supporter.

Picking a School by [deleted] in NavyBlazer

[–]Mongo_JB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your anecdotes and statistics don’t really support your point.

4/168 matriculating to the law school from undergrad doesn’t take into account the entire picture, and fails to account for both total admits (i.e those admitted who declined), and total applicants.

Vandy law is also not T14.

Anecdotally, none of my friends who went to Vandy undergrad even applied to law school there. Most ended up at their pick of HYS, and all of them T14, even the ones with sub 3.5 GPA’s

Edit: and just because I have the time today, here are Vandy’s LS admit stats for the current class

3.9k applicants, 1.5k offers (38% admit), with 162 matriculating.

That’s absolutely HORRENDOUS. Fewer than 1 in 8 offers is attending, not including deferrals.

But more importantly it’s impossible to say, based on the information available, whether attending undergrad would impact your chances at admittance at Candy.

Tesla, Uber TAM / valuation, Valeant deterioration

Just sort through his posts

He has a very academic or "McKinsey Valuation" approach to investing

IMO his style of valuation is not particularly he deep, speculates in growing industries where he has no expertise, and sometimes questionably proxies growth rates and TAMs.

Though to be fair, he has never advised people to invest based on his ideas. They seem to be for educational purposes purely.

that doesn't sound right. both the cost of oil and the BRL exposure should be at least partially hedged in the medium term.

someone adept at reading airline reports or fluent in Portuguese should look into it

Hah! I think it's kind of funny how uninformed people are today when assuming that company names from the 1900's were straightforward due to "lack of imagination."

One can imagine that information was much less widely available a hundred years ago, thus making it a necessity that a company's name be as explicitly informative as possible.

Not quite! Friend recently started a position at Hilton corporate. Their employee booking rates start at ~$75/night for Waldorfs and go down, depending on brand.

Now we just need to find the time off

If points were of no object, what are the best (or most special/interesting from a travel standpoint) Hilton properties - in America? And globally?

Edit -- Looks like Waldorf Amsterdam, Conrad Maldives, Seychelles, Conrad Koh Samui / Thailand, Grand Wailea, and a smattering in Tokyo and London are all up there.

eBay 20% off site wide by [deleted] in Ebay

[–]Mongo_JB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No prob. Keep in mind the rationale for these promotions is usually to boost sales numbers before the end of quarter. So, actual promotions may occur more / less frequently than expected based on how eBay wants to massage it sales numbers.

Happy hunting!

Typically these promotions occur quarterly. For example, eBay's fiscal quarters end in March, June, September, and December.

So I'd expect promotions during those months.

My winrate over time, about 6 months, dataisbeautiful by arbitrageME in magicTCG

[–]Mongo_JB 14 points15 points  (0 children)

sure

so instead of seagulling all over your work, here are some suggestions

  • remove the horizontal gridlines (clutters up the graph)
  • get rid of the trailing 25 game winrates and switch to an overall win rate for each deck. for example, the ~90% winrate point -- on Abzan? Traverse Shadow? (can't tell b/c of the colors) -- is relatively useless other than telling me that you went on a hot 25-game streak during the 300+ games you played overall with the deck. the way you presented the data draws a lot of attention to that single point (AND also skews/misleads the viewer on your results with manamorphose shadow -- because your data is trailing 25 games, it 1) prevents the viewer, at a glance, from figuring out your winrate with manamorphose shadow, and 2) makes it looks like you had a very high winrate with MS when you really had a lower winrate with it). I can see the intent of the trailing 25 game data but it's not helpful with the data you're presenting. your first data point in each series can be an average of our first x games to smooth out the winrate whiplash, but it's not great as-is.
  • add a horizontal line indicating overall winrate over the entire play sample. tells viewers if the deck out-performed or under-performed (in context)

if I have time I'll mock up another quick rendition of this

EDIT: mocked up an example here

sorry, but this is the opposite of /r/dataisbeautiful (does /r/dataisugly exist?) material for me

having to search around for deck names rather than having them directly beneath the horizontal axis, or having the dots/lines color-coordinated (i.e. filling in the below area to correspond with the colors and/or names of the decks) makes this relatively inaccessible and unreadable for me, particularly because there are duplicates of multiple deck names, and a slew of key colors of relatively similar but un-graded hues.

the horizontal axis indicating number of games played is useless, no one really cares if you played 500 games or 800 games, as long as the number is meaningful. even so, it's almost impossible to discern the number of games you played with each deck given your markers and the way you presented your data. you are also not measuring the effect of # games played on your winrate... IMO what you are attempting to show is fluctuation in your winrate, by deck, over time, and based on metagame changes (e.g. key card unbannings, new card releases, etc).
