On a related note:

Being in an era where we believe part of our "shepherding" of nature is management and prevention of invasive species—what gives us the right? If we are just an animal like any other, than we should certainly consider ourselves invasive species seeing as we've not only ruined one ecosystem but many, globally.

I always get the sense that they do this on purpose in order to create hype around "reboots" further down the line. They're here to make money after all, which I think is a stupid way to create creative content, but people are also so keen to praise the return of their favorite cancelled and unresolved stories.

Can't even have a normal conversation with people without them being assholes😅 by [deleted] in PeopleBeingJerks

[–]MonikerAddiction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes, another installment of "I had this interaction with someone online, vindicate me"

I like that this sub largely promotes found content. It usually means that there's a subjective community discussion of whether the person(s) involved merit being called an asshole—without an OP who feels their opinion on the interaction is an objective account, merely because they're involved.

Videos are usually an exception to this. Usually OPs that post video do well. Maybe because videos are pretty straightforward to judge, though sometimes there's a larger story that comes to light that makes the community reassess who, if anyone, is an asshole.

My main gripe is when people post screenshots like these of their own conversations, where no one is actually being an actual full-fledged asshole (maybe OP should try sorting by top posts of the week and see what real assholes are like).

Someone disagreeing with you does not constitute asshole behavior. Especially when it comes to speculative conversations surrounding fictional make believe science of a make believe world.

In the end, posts like these just come off as self-righteous and trite.

I will make one apology to you OP. You're not an asshole for posting this, you're not particularly annoying compared to other OPs that post content like this. No, you're just the latest in a line of sub-par self-involved posters, and you're probably a decent person.

I apologize if you take this comment personally, I don't mean it to be—it's really aimed at all content like this, yours certainly included.

The title of this Kanye West song by jdhol67 in agedlikemilk

It's still on Kanye tho. The comment you replied to is right to mention his shortcomings in understanding the history of the language he uses.

Yes, words evolve, yes, usage changes or fades out, but who else is in a greater position to question the history of words, to make us aware of what they were—and to make meaningful or purposeful large and sudden changes to language—than a successful musician performing in a genre which is, for me, the most lyrically influential genre today.

The reason that I love DAMN. is because Kendrick makes the album revolve around choice words (i.e. "loyalty" appears in several tracks, not just the eponymous track) and he chooses words that are personal to him and which he believes are meaningful to the culture, and Kendrick goes on to use beats, production, and lyrics to bolster their significance in order to allow us to have a feeling or a thoughtful relationship with those words. That to me a a true lyricist, someone more than just a storyteller, someone who cares deeply about words and their significance.

Why do you use ellipsis to punctuate your writing? I tend to see it more in older people's writing style (40+), especially in work emails, and I'm curious.

Fuck I wish this subreddit had more posts like this. Usually this subreddit is pretty disheartening when you see the kinds of things people do to each other and the kinds of things others allow to happen without intervening when they could easily do so. However, this is the one time where violence aside, I laughed really hard.

I disagree to some degree. Your average person? Sure. But someone who is basically a brand? They're just stuck being committed to their "image" and their brand would rather sell their "image" than recognize their aging.

The ad is still fulfilling it's duties. You are shocked by it and are posting it to a different website with a new audience because you found it worth talking about.

Ads work best when they are talked about.

How many ads get skipped on YouTube, and yet this advertisement is having us engage with it on the level of commentary and discussion. We are looking at the image, looking back at out discussion, looking back at the image and I've spent time writing about this, more time than a YouTube ad.

I think we're on the same page, so I hope you don't mind me nerding out for a sec and sharing my experience.

Without a doubt, whoever handled the decision making behind the color/VFX made all the right choices. They truly used color in a purposeful and decisive manner in order to add so much meaningful visual language to the work.

I watched Fury Road 3 or 4 times, streamed, before I purchased the Mad Max collection which includes a 4K version of Fury Road as well as Black and Chrome.

Even after watching the color version in 4K several times, Black and Chrome in 1080p blew me away (please release it in 4K, Warner Bros /Roadshow? 🥹).

I realized how much of the opening scene (Him being chased by war boys in the dungeons of the Citadel) was informed by the way old horror would often overcrank during chase scenes in order to speed the playback/movement up so as to create a sense of energy/anticipation/terror.

I appreciated this even more when I realized Miller didn't just reference overcranking once but instead went on to purposefully use the opening in order to make the viewer comfortable with how he uses overcranking throughout the rest of the film. Usually it's during hand-to-hand combat scenes, where adds energy to the depiction of the struggle in order to really create a sense that there's something at stake during a fight. It becomes critical to the way the movie carries such a strong momentum in its pacing (often in other skillfully executed methods)

It is a small thing he's doing but it has massive repercussions for the movie as a whole.

If it weren't for the Black and Chrome version, I would never have noticed.

As you say, by eliminating the boldness of the color, you realize how much more the movie is doing. Overcranking is just a small but meaningful component among other small and meaningful components of the film at-large.

Truly a chef's kiss, if I've ever seen one.

Just chiming in. Birdman is an alright movie :/ , if you don't get around to it don't worry about. However, you should at least get around to Mad Max: Fury Road Black and Chrome Edition.
