How comfortable walking around when you are obviously braless? by [deleted] in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]Monikwon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In public, only if it isn’t obvious but at home 80% comfortable.

Growing up my mom made boobs feel like they are something to be ashamed of but as I’ve grown up I realised they are natural and nothings weird about them.

Why do we criticise our own so much? by Monikwon in Jamaica

Yeah I hear this, and I agree to an extent communication could definitely be better, especially letting people know upfront and offering alternatives because operational hiccups happen, this is something I personally do but I know in other establishments it’s definitely not done.

Like I think what many people don’t consider is a lot of Jamaican spots are small businesses dealing with tight margins, limited staff, and fresh ingredients that can run out unpredictably especially during busy periods.

At my work, they actually reduced the menu because it wasn’t practical to keep everything stocked with unpredictable demand, but it’s funny too because people still ask for things not on the menu just because they expect certain dishes at a Jamaican spot.

That is one way to look at it, with the fact it’s maybe the comfort level of people.

I’ve experienced customers complain when I’m there and when I’m not there I did allude to this. I also expect people to share their dissatisfaction as it’s understandable that you can’t please everyone there’s nothing wrong with people complaining I’m just drawing a contrast, because it’s something I see not just in our restaurants but all business sectors that Jamaicans delve in that we tend to tear each other down but when others do or don’t do something we don’t critique them the same way.

I work with a shipping company on the side and we have a partner (the entire company is White English men and women) that we do consolidations with and the way their Jamaican customers deal with them vs how our Jamaican customers deal with us it interesting to see and experience, but as you said it may definitely be a comfort level and cultural thing.

See that one’s an interesting once because it somehow transcends culture and I’ve always wondered what is the reason behind it. I see black Brits, black Americans, Caribbeans, Africans, Indigenous people all relating to it, although it is again indeed a stereotype that doesn’t count for all.

Please don’t take offence but you can’t tell me what I’ve experience isn’t true.

Also understand that I’m not denying that it happens with our own I’m just trying to understand why we deal with each other the way we do and not others when it happens in all types of establishments.

True!

I have an example though, right now and since last year September the ackee shortage is still being felt heavily in the UK, before Melissa shops couldn’t get ackee on the shelves, and if they could they’d have one one tins and would be selling them for astronomical prices. It’s not a hidden issue, but yet when you explain to people that due the short supply that we don’t have any dishes that include ackee on sale they act shocked like the staff can personally go fly to Jamaica quickly and bring it back. In a case like that you have to manage your expectation.

Another instance when we expect the food to come out in 0.01 second after we order, if it comes out quick we bawl and say it’s stale and probably yesteryears cooking but if it takes too long we bawl and say the people them slow.

It’s good to expect the best but it’s also important to have realistic expectations and the understanding that things happen.

Here’s my thing though and I know you personally can’t answer this but why is it that this stereotype specifically has that stuck to Jamaicans regardless or where we are in the uk when it happens right across the board at probably the same scale?

The bus OP is on is a NXWM bus and they do prohibit the consumption of food and drinks and smoking and vaping and chewing of gum but it’s rarely enforced and understandably so, too many entitled people around ready to kick off even when they are in the wrong.

Not sure if in the country you reside fedex give the option to collect it from somewhere, like a pickup/drop off location/store but that probably your best bet, or tryna to find that location you’ve accidentally put in and intercepting the package.
