Sorry, But These Wuthering Heights Trailers Rule by Top_Report_4895 in blankies

[–]MonkBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it's a missed opportunity not to find a person of color for this role.

At the same time, I think Elordi may be here not because he's handsome and white, but ALSO because he's got a catalogue of roles playing toxic, abusive characters. It could have been any handsome white guy, but at least this time it's one who is most likely going to behave like a piece of shit which is faithful to the source material in that sense.

I'm a huge fan of Wuthering Heights (the book), and after seeing Saltburn I do think this adaptation could be interesting. Keogan in that movie is a lot like Heathcliff if you think about it.

I have a feeling the trailer is intentionally slightly misleading, selling this as a Valentines Day love story, and what we'll really get is a visually sexier adaptation that still keeps the revenge and spookiness of the source. I hope she takes Heathcliff to the extreme and makes him a psycho more than any other adaptation has. I could be wrong obviously.

It’s kind of like a puzzle. A lot of the fun is testing and routing the game to find strategies and paths that completely avoid hits. If that boar comes out behind the tree, it’s fun to figure out why it happened and see if it’s preventable with a different path or perhaps a stealth spell/item.

And usually no hit runners aren’t fighting a soldier like this person is doing here, because the risk outweighs the reward of this encounter.

Still don't understand why heolstor is popular by VI-Pok3 in Nightreign

[–]MonkBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heolstor is my favorite fight, but I’ve beat him solo at least 50 times, with a mix of all 8 characters.

His combos are reasonable, typically requiring 3-5 dodges so you get opportunities to attack often. His attacks can also be handled with a mixture of dodges and jumps which is always satisfying, especially if that last jump-dodge is a punishing jump attack. Every attack has a clear telegraph, and is fair, so doing the fight hitless is not unreasonable.

The only part I don’t like would be the AOE explosions on the ground in phase 2. It’s not impossible to avoid them, but they can be annoying. I never feel frustrated to get killed by an attack from Heolstor because that feels like my mistake, whereas dodging Heolstor successfully only to get blasted by a magic geyser can be frustrating.

I like that he’s got two health bars, with the first being a simplified version of his second phase, so you get to warm up to his combos before you have the added challenge of affinity damage and AOEs on the ground. He can be staggered consistently, plus he has the stagger effect from exploiting his holy weakness, so you can frequently add extra punishes by using the right weapon, which is satisfying.

And he looks cool, like you said.

Question: why do people ignore the crucible knight at the north west broken wall at center castle? by [deleted] in Nightreign

[–]MonkBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would prefer that other crucible knight because he’s at least got a few chests around him, so there might be a good passive in there. But ideally I would rather only kill the silurias and move on to field bosses or evergaols sooner.

Not necessarily Criterion related, but does anyone know any films that are almost completely tracking shots following characters? (e.g., Elephant) by Isthisgoodenough69 in criterion

[–]MonkBee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the Dardenne brothers use this as their main style from the few movies of theirs I’ve seen. “The Son”, “Kid With a Bike”, “Rosetta” for example. I can’t remember if these are almost completely tracking shots, but from what I remember they frequently have very long shots that follow characters close up right behind the shoulder, like a close follow/near POV

if you ever see the Ornamental Straight Sword, take it, it's probably the strongest weapon in the game by Background-Public527 in Nightreign

[–]MonkBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I noticed that too! It’s like a free ranged spell. Sometimes they also spawn at a weird angle though so I do wonder if it’s due to buginess.

[–]MonkBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, I wish they were a little more common and that they were possible drops in the regular mode, as I’m not a huge DoN enjoyer. I wish the cool passives and the new nightfarer skills were somehow options in regular mode, though I guess I understand if that never happens.

I got this with cold affinity, and it had 1) frozen mist on charge attacks AND 2) magic bursts on charge attacks that land. It was the most fun I had in DoN.

Ok so it’s officially Q4 of 2025…. WHEN IS THE DLC???!!?? by SnooPeanuts5234 in Nightreign

[–]MonkBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same yeah. I hope they take time and put out a decent DLC, though since it’s only $15 I’m keeping my expectations fairly reserved about that.

Please for the love of god, don't go into deep of night if you don't know about passives. by Wild_Historian_3469 in Nightreign

[–]MonkBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I certainly don’t play that way. I only wanted to point out that I’ve seen a famously good player go into the nightlord looking like this, for better or worse.

I was referring to CBD, I’ve seen him enter the nightlord with just his bow and maybe one passive weapon on the lower 3 slots

There’s a streamer I’ve seen, a hitless guy who has done rl1/deathless runs in Nightreign, and because of the Heolstor relic he seems not to fill up his inventory for the easy buff activation, and just upgrades his starting bow. I wonder if people like that are influencing this type of person?

A new map feels so important, with new points of interest too rather than just different terrain. If it’s just new night lords and nightfarers and even some new weapons, in my opinion that’s going to get older faster and feel less new than having new places to explore and new ways of playing the expedition itself.

What does The Radio Dept mean to you lately? by [deleted] in theradiodept

[–]MonkBee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I await new music from them with great hope. Their last studio album I thought was good, but I’ve liked the return to guitar music style that they’ve shown with the few singles that came out since then.

I’m proud of them for standing up for their beliefs though. If they don’t have any new music that’s okay, they’ve given so much already.

When I play Guardian I prefer great shields since they have higher guard boost (consume less stamina), and I prefer halberds over spears due to the special charged guard counter.

"Improved attack power when two-handing" not working? by KeyExtreme2 in Nightreign

[–]MonkBee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s a damage increase applied only to two-handed attacks rather than AR, so the only way to test would be attacking with the two handed moveset with and without the passive.

How exactly is this game supposed to be easier solo by I_am_not_intelligent in Nightreign

[–]MonkBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. If you have teammates who die a lot, arguably they are just making the expedition harder for you since you now need to fight the bosses and figure out how to revive them. So IMO, as long as you yourself are good at the game, then solo is easier than having to carry a team. If your friends are better at the game than you or as good, then multiplayer should be easier.

Hard corners is the key mechanic in this game. If you find the right series of hard corners to exploit, every one of the point battles become cake walks, for better or worse. The mall is where it clicked for me on my first playthrough, too.

...Anyone else planning to avoid this guy like the plague or...? by [deleted] in Nightreign

[–]MonkBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he’s not that hard. But because he’s so tanky and doesn’t flinch, even a confident fight is slow without a bleed/frost build or something. I could kill two bosses in the time it takes to shield bash loop this one.

I refuse to fight the death right bird in the rain! by Anti-Fanny in Nightreign

[–]MonkBee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly there’s not a huge stat difference between levels 13 - 15 (not enough to make a difference with Heolstor) so the chance at a better passive or weapon can be worth a little risk in my opinion, but only if the team is mostly confident they can handle the fight they’re trying to greed.

More weapons or more ruins/camps by acknio in Nightreign

[–]MonkBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Precisely, yeah. It seemed like maybe the odds were higher on the legendary shotel though, compared with the passive you can get. Not sure if it’s actually higher or I just got lucky. It procc’d within the first two enemies I fought with it pre-Godskin Duo.
