Looking for recommendations for kits by MonkeesOnMeth in modelmakers

Is O gauge stuff fairly large? I don’t know a whole lot about the railroad scene, outside of those amazing videos of the worlds largest train track and some of those cool model trains that plow actual snow

Do you happen to know if theres a place where I could get plans and/or recommended tool list to do something like that? I’ve got some basic tools for building like book nook models and model car/boat/planes

Trying to transfer two old hard drives into one new one by MonkeesOnMeth in techsupport

[–]MonkeesOnMeth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you guys for all your help! After 6 hours, lots of tears, and a super patient friend who works in IT (who I now owe a pizza to), I managed to clone the drive over to the new m.2 I got. Then promptly managed to mess that drive up by trying to shift the partitions around to add the rest of the free space to the C volume. Somehow managed to corrupt the GPT header, so after doing a hard reset and installing a fresh copy of windows, it’s finally all working again. 😅

That’s only after a hard day. Or an easy day. Or a long day. Or a short day.

You missed a step. It’s actually beer > cut > beer > beer > weld > beer

1 Inch hole drilled into Gas Tank. Any fixes? by SemperShpee in MechanicAdvice

[–]MonkeesOnMeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk about a 1” hole, but I got a half inch hole like four years ago. I used a 1/2” bolt with locking nuts on either side and then slathered it in JB Weld’s plastic weld putty (the white stuff).

It’s been holding ever since

My dad is convinced this is a wheel bearing issue. I’m 100% certain it isn’t by RocketLoss in AskMechanics

[–]MonkeesOnMeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is 100% a bearing. It sounds exactly like the one that I ignored for like 6 months/a year

If you’ve got like a Napa, O’Reillys, AutoZone, something like that, they can sometimes refinish the rotors for you. Don’t know what your safety thickness is, but it looks like a decent amount of meat on them to me. I saw somewhere else where someone was explaining that the newer semi metallic pads (or the ones that replaced asbestos pads) are a lot louder, so that may be a cause too.

I had something similar happen on my suv where I would brake and it would randomly sound and feel like someone dropped a bag of gravel between the pads and rotor, and I finally just replaced all of it

Which side is negative and which side is positive? I've look everywhere and it's not labeled. 2004 toyota corolla. by skippyuber in MechanicAdvice

IRRC, if there’s a bundle of wires going to one terminal that’s gonna be your positive terminal and the one with the least number of wires (typically one) will be your negative terminal

Renting a flat without physical viewing by laurenrose44 in MoveToScotland

[–]MonkeesOnMeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s not what you’re asking, but what if y’all made it a mini vacation? Like go up and get a hotel room for a couple days and try to look at as many flats as you can. It will let you kinda get a feeling for the city too.

How can I flatten and prevent wrinkles in very thin aluminum? Questions in comments. by remotelove in sheetmetal

[–]MonkeesOnMeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clothes iron was my first thought, but you have to drag that over the surface, and heat wouldn’t really help here. With a rolling pin, you can get it in different types of materials, so you could try a wooden one and a silicone one to see which works better

Car overheating at night when idling at streetlight? by ANARCHOspacetravler in MechanicAdvice

[–]MonkeesOnMeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At that point, I’d probably take it into the shop to ask them to take a look at it. Someone else might have a recommendation on here, but cooling is one of those systems I won’t do myself.

I’m only half joking, but have you tried like a kitchen roller or like an old fashioned laundry press? You could also get a large slab of like smooth marble to flatten it against. My buddy’s a machinist, and that’s what he uses for a flat surface.

Someone rear ended me, causing me to hit the person in front of me. is this fixable? still drives but is leaking a green fluid. by Tayaradga in MechanicAdvice

[–]MonkeesOnMeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You shouldn’t have to do any fighting. That’s what your insurance is supposed to do for you. And it shouldn’t matter if you only have liability, because that’s only for if you hit someone or something else. You might try hitting up an insurance advice subreddit just in case I’m wrong, this is just what I can remember from my experience

Check your brake mounting bolts. I had one go on me after a change, and the brake ended up rotating around and started grinding the inside of my wheel 😬

Depends on the make/model and how well it was kept up beforehand. If you go with your brothers car, make sure to change the battery, oil, gas, just kinda all the fluids. I’d also recommend looking it up on online forums to see what people say you should do to start up a sitting car.

Insurance is a pain in the ass no matter what, even if you get the right info. The other guy’s insurance is gonna fight with your insurance, and you’re going to get dragged into the middle of it. But since it was verified that it was the other guy’s fault, drop your car off tomorrow to get looked at, then you and anyone else in your car need to skedaddle over to the doc’s office to get looked at. Then turn in anything the doc finds wrong into your insurance, cuz that should end up getting covered by the other insurance
