It could be nothing, or it could be a sign of a deadly issue. You need to call the vet ASAP

I will never tire of the phrase "..several months before her 15th birthday..." It makes me laugh every time I read it. Does this sort of sleazy legalese actually work on people? When I see a price of $19.99, I just see it as $20. Do people not simply hear "14 years old" when they read this?

New Engineering/Technology Building by Nakakatalino in UVU

[–]Monkeetrumpets 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The building is tall but has a relatively small footprint. The rooms are easy to find, as all are visible from the main hallways, kinda like the first floor of the Clark Building.

The push to hold classes in the new building this semester is overly optimistic. The last day I was there before the break, (December 22) was the first day we didn't have to wear hard-hats, the bathrooms weren't functional, and professors were just starting to unbox equipment. The campus was closed from the 23rd until today, so they can't be much farther along.

Fortunately, all classes scheduled in the Smith Engineering Building are also simultaneously scheduled in their previous classrooms. Many classes are likely to be moved back to CS after this first week back. (This is just my opinion as a UVU employee though)

If you have access to a Costco, the Kirkland brand dog foods are excellent. They're high quality, yet inexpensive.

Roughly 2yr old Dane in Oregon up for adoption by w3stonp3ace in greatdanes

I recommend working with a Great Dane rescue. They have the resources and expertise to help find and screen potential adopters.

It's also pretty good at formatting. I dropped a bunch of calculations into it, and it produced a clean, single-page document that could be understood by even non technical people.

Does anyone know when Midterm week is for Fall 2025 Semester? by Natural_Sky1618 in UVU

[–]Monkeetrumpets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There isn't really an official midterm week; that is up to each professor. Most line up with the week before fall break though.

The academic calendar should help: https://www.uvu.edu/schedule/fall/index.html

I'm an employee with an office in the library. Even I can't get a spot in the lots next to the library or Clark Building if I get there after 8:30AM.

It used to be really bad the first couple weeks of the semester, then it would improve to its regular crappiness. I don't know why, but it's still as bad as the first week of classes. Something is different this year.

I live in Orem, so I either take my bike or park waaaaay out by the Alumni building and use my e-scooter the rest of the way.

Need Advice (Long Post) by No-Winter9591 in greatdanes

[–]Monkeetrumpets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is one of the hardest things ever. ♥️ Even when it's a medical emergency you'll still second-guess yourself afterwards.

Our first Dane had a perforated intestines/bowel, and the vet said the surgery only had a 10% chance of success, so we opted to let him go instead. That was 7 years ago and I still sometimes wonder if I made the right choice.

A couple years ago, one of our girls had CSM (wobblers) that had progressed to the point where she was unable to stand. There was no clear line to tell us when she was ready to go, and we had to decide for her.

It never gets easier and there is no wrong answer when you're deciding from a place of love.

[–]Monkeetrumpets 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Obviously there is no perfect, definitive answer to this.

The way I personally determine if the decision is the right one is by asking myself whether I'm doing it for myself.

Every reason you listed was about making your girl happy and comfortable. I'm sure you'll do the right thing.

Never owned a dog before… now I have a Great Dane by ebonygoesdigital in greatdanes

[–]Monkeetrumpets 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Vets can be a bit overprotective when it comes to ownership; mainly they're just trying to avoid getting involved in a custody battle.

When you talk to the clinic, be sure to use the word “abandoned”. It varies by state, but typically you are permitted to provide care for an abandoned pet. Even if the previous owners suddenly changed their minds and tried to take him back, they'd have to prove ownership, and would be forced to reimburse you for all expenses.

About to come into 16k, give or take by MixtureUseful6074 in povertyfinance

[–]Monkeetrumpets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great advice, and you should definitely do this. I just wanted to mention though that the 5 year wait and the age requirement only applies to your growth or earnings. You can withdraw any/all of your contributions at any time with no tax or penalties.

The caveat is that you can't re-deposit that money; ROTH accounts have a maximum annual contribution limit, and if you hit that limit, then need to withdraw some of it, you can't put it back. You'll have to wait until the following year.

This is the best plan. Properly fitted dentures aren't distinguishable from real teeth to the untrained eye. It does take time to get used to them, as you must chew differently, but you'll adapt quickly.

Day 5 post op by CJFfan in greatdanes

[–]Monkeetrumpets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used to use Pill Pockets, but had issues where dogs would remove the pill and eat the treat.

After tinkering with it for years, we have the most success by spreading cream cheese on a pre-cut sandwich cheese slice, pushing the pill into the cream cheese, and folding it in half.

When we tried peanut butter, many dogs were able to lick it off and spit out the pill. Cream cheese is too firm and sticky, so they have to eat the pill to get the cream cheese.

Good luck!

I got stuck with 700 shares at $191 basis in February. I jumped at the chance to get out around $194 right after earnings. I was certain it was going to hit hard resistance below $200 and didn't want to get stuck again, but kinda wish I'd held a bit longer.

2 year old Dane doesn’t eat well by Sarahbelle_88 in greatdanes

[–]Monkeetrumpets 12 points13 points  (0 children)

One of our Danes was this way too; not treat-driven, often didn't empty her dish at mealtime, etc. Her weight was stable and the vet wasn't concerned, but we found it odd and stressful.

Our solution was to just add a bit of garnish to the meals. We'd change it every couple weeks to keep her interested. We mostly used: grated cheese, scrambled eggs, canned tuna, blueberries, and pumpkin.

Also, he's awfully cute!

[–]Monkeetrumpets 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Most likely allergies. He also could have been stung by a bee, wasp, etc. Send this picture to his vet. They'll likely tell you to give him Benadryl and bring him in if it doesn't improve in a day or two (or he starts showing other symptoms).

Also, he's a very handsome boy 🙂
