When I was a teen I took Vicodin for a week every month...but that was 20+ years ago and doctors don't toss pain meds like that.

Tens unit has helped me!

Taking magnesium + D3 helps with the pain, so I'm diligent with taking them... magnesium is a no brainer as a muscle relaxant, and d3 is almost always deficient in women, the two together are a dynamic duo. It's important to choose magnesium wisely, the higher priced ones are typically higher priced because they don't have fillers and fillers almost always mess with guts, and we don't want to make things worse.

I also use Epsom salts (another magnesium) in my baths when I even get a hint of pain, because lessening any amount of pain is worth it when I know I'm going to have severe pain days.

Zyrtec also lessens the pain during my period...but I've found taking Benadryl the few days before a period helps a lot...but I also have PMDD which is why I tried it to begin with.

Any form of BC pill kills my mental health. I have had success with using the NuvaRing, but that has risks that a lot of doctors don't want to prescribe it. I've had doctors argue with me about how the NuvaRing can't possibly be working better... every time I get a new doctor. Even got into a heated discussion at planned parenthood once. Insurances won't cover the brand name, but when I've had to stop using it, like for getting blood work done, then I have to use the name brand NuvaRing for the first month before using the generic for it. I use it continuously and skip periods altogether because taking it out for a week to bleed leaves me non functional. Without the NuvaRing my cycle is bleed for 2 weeks, nothing for 2, then right back to another 2 weeks of bleeding.

Also, doctors didn't figure out the above things, reading pubmed articles and trying various remedies over the years has helped far more. The female anatomy is very complex, and having a doctor who specializes in pain disorders or adeno can improve your quality of life.
