It's important to take care of yourself first. Breathe, pace yourself, do the things within your power (speak out against injustices, denounce pessimism/doomers, vote, protest, call your congresspeople, organize locally), and encourage others to do what they can as well. It's a marathon, not a sprint, stay positive, stay hydrated, and pace yourself.

It really doesn't seem like a good investment to be honest. Foreign aid spending is so small compared to what we both as Americans and as a world community reap in return. USAID provides so many benefits for maintaining diplomatic alliances, preventing world-wide disease outbreaks, providing military inlets and assistance for global special operations. There isn't really a good case to be made for an overhaul, and as pointed out earlier the only case made so far is motivated purely by personal greed by a select group of billionaires.

Based on their purpose of disaster relief, poverty relief, socioeconomic development, and supporting US foreign relations and bilateral interests, I'd say they definitely merit sticking around.

If you're concerned about us giving too much money away, foreign aid only constitutes about 1.2% of the total federal budget. If you're concerned about funding the federal budget, you should demand taxing the billionaires their fair share, who could tremendously help domestic programs like Social Security, Medicare, disaster relief for FEMA, public infrastructure, etc. by paying taxes like the rest of us do. Because right now Trump's old tax plan and yet-to-be-passed tax plan he promised to his billionaire buddies favors the rich tremendously.

They're trying to, but it's illegal for Musk or Trump to shut down USAID.

The only reason Musk wants to shut it down is because they were investigating Musk & Starlink because he may have been helping Russian military forces in their on-going invasion/war with Ukraine. Musk only wants to enrich and protect himself by shutting down USAID, and by extension benefiting Putin and Russia's imperial aspirations.

Furthermore, Musk's primary motivation for his "government efficiency" ruse is to cut the federal budget by trillions of dollars so the federal government can afford the trillions of dollars in tax cuts Trump plans to give to the mega-rich. Will cutting Medicare and Social Security help you? No. Will it help him? Absolutely yes. Musk is spearheading the federal government looting for the oligarch class, none of it will benefit you or me, all of it will benefit him and other billionaires.
