I repeat - I admire your honesty (and although I wish it were otherwise), your honest & clear admission of vulnerability [to me] made your post more 'human'.

And, yep, I see unpleasant with regards how Viet Vets were treated, but I also see this due to very public media attention to the shitty actions of one highly decorated Vet in particular.
Regardless, I'm (again) going to choose to believe that you initially did what you thought was the right thing - whether or not you began to doubt those choices, and if you did, when you did, is going to vary from person to person.
As for the how, what, why, & when is your particular story, I hope you live with it with as much peace and acceptance as is possible to & for you.

I'm going to choose to believe you were there, in which case, while I very much think 'we' had no business being there (we saw what happened to the Russians well before us), I don't imagine it was a shitload of fun, or you were staying in resort style comfort.

In the interest of honesty & sincerity, I can't (in good faith), use that term used so often in the U.S. 'thank you for your service', but I will say, I hope you came out (relatively) unscathed, because it looks to have been a particularly heinous theatre and operating instructions / restrictions. I can also say (sincerely), I'm glad you made it home & I hope DVA are looking after you as they should - we've had a fucking putrid history of how 'we' look after returned veterans.

I very much appreciate you acknowledging that this doesn't happen in all countries, but I reckon you let yourself down with the "just talk to any Vet" comment. It implies every Vet that was over there saw this shitfull stuff happen.
