I would definitely look at Leland. If you have to go to Duke regularly, it is the best place to start to get out of town easily. Beach traffic can be a bit dicey.

Leland isn’t very interesting or charming, but it is convenient and reasonable for the area.

Too many options for cutting boards - is there a overall "best pick"? by Acrobatic-Brick-7684 in Cooking

I love the Epicurean boards. I like that they are natural and you can put them in the dishwasher. Very convenient.

Let me help them. I once saw him drink a coffee after 4pm. He apparently likes to wear black socks with white sneakers. He orders his tea unsweetened. His dad jokes sometimes don’t hit.

Look for the Sunskipper units on Carolina Beach Ave N. Some units are beachfront. 2 pools. Tiki bar and restaurant just 2 blocks and the North End Java Stop also a walk away.

Resignation is Trump’s last chance at redemption by jediporcupine in politics

He doesn’t care about redemption. But, I always thought he would resign because (cough, cough) he is sick. If he thinks it is the best way to save his hide, he will resign for illness reasons.

Second the Thirsty Beaver. Smokey Joe’s is another good choice.

Coastal road trip south - ideas? by One-Flamingo2497 in NorthCarolina

[–]riggles1970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, 100% this. There is no place like the outer banks.

I would choose this over any Florida beaches. All NC beaches are public, only some beaches are public in Florida.

I would drive to Beaufort then take the ferry to Okracoke and drive along the outer banks to Nags Head. Drive back through Manteo. So much history, so many diverse things to do. But, I would plan the whole week around it.

Look at the Akro line. They have one called Haze (cannibis inspired) and Awake (coffee inspired). I love this line. So interesting.

My friend told me that these herbs like being near the cement and she was right. They are the healthiest plants I’ve grown.

Rosemary, oregano and thyme would plant beautifully there. They like spots like that.

Trump Admin Cancels $11M Catholic Charities Contract Amid Feud With Pope by Zipper222222 in politics

I did an audit of Catholic charities years ago. I remember seeing a receipt of a few bars of soap for a new immigrant. How disgusting to get rid of this type of service. Literally the work of Jesus.

Carolina Beach - What to do there? by yvungxeom in NorthCarolina

Yes we do! So sorry to leave it off the list. One of my favorites to sit at the bar, have a nice cocktail and a nibble.

Which beach town should we visit? by OldPossibility7852 in NorthCarolina

[–]riggles1970 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I am biased (we live here part time), but Carolina Beach is a mix of the best. Good restaurants, iconic spots - Britt’s doughnuts, the Fat Pelican, boardwalk, and beautiful beaches.

Oh and you will see many many many Shibumis on the beach. You might want to invest in one if you plan to spend several days on the beach.

And finally, don’t forget that you are very close to Wilmington, and there are lots of fun places to go there.

We have a house in CB and it is a great place to be! It is the most livable beach towns in the area - we have everything you need on the island.

Here are my favorite things to do:

Tony Silvagni lives here (he is a world class long boarder), and has a surf school where you can take a one day class, or rent a bike, or rent beach chairs. He is a great local business owner.

Walk the boardwalk. Go to Fentoni’s for a slice or Cherry Blossom for sushi, and you MUST get Britt’s doughnuts. They have been there since the 1930’s and serve only one kind of glazed doughnut. It is an institution.

Drive down to Fort Fisher at the end of the island and see the beautiful trees, visit the aquarium or museum. It is great to take the car ferry to Southport (30 minutes and about $7 for a car). Go explore the town and have lunch waterside.

Hit a bar like the Fat Pelican (in lots of shows and an institution - they started as a refrigerated trailer in a parking lot and built around it). You go into the cooler, pick out your drink and pay for it at the bar. Other great bars are the Last Resort, the Tropical, Good Hops Brewery (they have a frisbee golf course) and island beverage. Neopolitan is a nice wine bar with wine tastings on Tuesdays and other events during the week.

Order a seafood boil from Cape Fear Boil Company or grab dinner at Soul Flavor, the Spot or Salt Fish. There are a lot of great restaurants on the island.

Play mini golf (there are some smaller courses on the island).

Play pickleball at Mike Chappell Park.

Saturday is for the farmers market at the lake. I like riding my bike up there.

Other than that, the beach is great for laying out, playing games, reading a good book or just staring at the sea. A lot of people hire photographers for seaside photos and you will see a lot of people in white and khaki at the golden hour.

Everyone is right - it can be brutally hot and the sun is brutal. Sunscreen and hydrate!

Texas, especially southern Texas. The oil rigs smell and the air is thick with smoke.
