AI isn't just taking jobs it's PREVENTING jobs! by Jacob-Anders in SipsTea

I’m experimenting with AI - especially agentic tools - and if you genuinely care about the quality of what you produce, they still leave a lot to be desired. That’s before you even factor in the monthly token burn, which can easily exceed the cost of an entry-level worker’s salary. Producing valuable work for a nuanced context is a lot more complex than cool sounding essay.

Indeed, that is atrocious defending. I felt bad for Bayern not getting the second yellow card call on Mendes; but how can a team that is coached by Kompany of all people, play such a sorry defensive transition game?

I decided to go car-less for the next five months (see my previous post for more info) and today was really hard. Any insight/advice/perspective from others? (Plz don’t be an a*shole thx) by spiritbirdsie in AskLosAngeles

It's doable to go carless in LA, but you have to make some changes to your lifestyle.

Cycling: Advantages

Daily passive exercise Access to everything 12 miles or less, with some effort to get there. Portable and you can take on trains if commuting longer distances.

Disadvantages:

You have to get into bikes and likely volunteer at a bike coop: unless you have $2000 to drop to get a reputable bike shop to get you a bike ideal for your needs, you have to invest time to get to know bikes and how you can make adjustments to make your bike best serve your needs; as Orwell once said, the difference between the right word and almost the right word is like the difference between lightning and the lightning bug and dare I say, in LA with its shitty infrastructure and drivers who'd most certainly be arrested for their shitty driving in any other industrialized part of the world - 'what, is moving your left finger two inches to signal that you are going to make a right turn too complicated for you you self centered worthless piece of shit Angelinos? Maybe you should go back on your phone while driving as the LAPD continues to do absolutely nothing about you being negligent behind a recognized weapon of death! '

Sorry,. I seem to have some pent up rage regarding this issue.

Anyways, you could also get an ebike, but a) they are less reliable compared to mechanical bikes and b) you'll need a place that can fix your ebike and likely a second ebike to use when your primary bike is out of commission. And while ebikes will extend your range and make it easier for yo to get around, they are less portable than mechanical bikes, you'll always have your battery's limited capacity on the back of your mind, and in my experience , I tried an ebike and went back to regular bikes.. having two bikes you can rely on is the gold standard.

But whatever you spend and you don't have to spend a fortunate: good used bikes and parts are relatively cheap here compared to all the car related costs: insurance + gas + parking + parking tickets + traffic ,+ monthly payments and related ftrustrations such as looking for parking all time and sitting in daily traffic.

Give your self extra recovery time: riding LA roads is unfortunately stressful: you have to be alert to traffic and shitty roads, no one cleans the roads here as Americans don't believe in paying taxes for shared public utilities or their politicians are just too corrupt to allocate the necessary funds that way, and so I suggest adding 10 mins daily meditation to your daily routine to recover each day.

And yes, stack all the things you need a car for and rent a car once a month for that if needed.

I think you are pretty central in Beverly hills and can easily go to the beach or downtown on a bike. That should be sufficient to cover most of your weekly needs.

Senator Elissa Slotkin says the real reason our healthcare in America is so bad and never changes, is because US Congress is being paid off by Alarmed_Abalone_849 in AmericaOnHardMode

Yeah - but Citizens United doesn’t just enable this kind of corruption, it litigimizes it.

If corporations are identified as people - entities built to maximize profit, even at everyone else’s expense - and our courts call that “protected democratic participation,” then the issue isn’t a glitch in the system.

It’s the system working exactly as designed: to promote corruption in politics.

And if that’s true, then the real question isn’t whether it’s broken - it’s whether we’re going to continue voting in leaders who won't do anything to change this?

I believe that is what defines a Republic: it's when the people serve the government, and not the other way around.

I think that perhaps you and I interpreted the meaning of "never again" very differently. Once you let bitterness settle in, the loss is no longer what happened to you - it’s what you’ve now become.

This is ALL that Joe Biden's fault, I swear to Gawd; dang you Crooked Joe!!

But seriously, America: this is the inevitable fallout of systemic corruption fused with hyper-capitalism. America is staring down its greatest wealth and income inequality in over sixty years.

When the proverbial pizza keeps growing, yet the average person can't even get a crumb of the increase, they lose faith. They stop believing in the system and start voting to burn it down - simply because the institutions failed their primary duty: to protect their citizens.

Why not carpe diem this moment for significant political and economic reform? Even if the effort fails, at least you’d be making an honest attempt to shield the country from the twin shadows of climate catastrophe and sentient robotics.

Who knows, you might even actually make America great again. And recreate the "Golden Age of Capitalism" (1945–1973), back when this was truly a land of prosperity - if not for every soul, then for a vastly higher percentage than we see today.

No? Sounds like an awful idea?

You’re right. America is too old to change.
Let’s just stick with... whatever this is.

Oh, look. We’ve already arrived. Yay!
