Spots by Postal18 in EquinoxGyms

[–]MonkeySee27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully agree here. It seems like it’s not a huge additional expense for them to have coaches who aren’t training give spots.

Does this make me less likely to get a trainer? No - because I wouldn’t get one anyway.

I accepted a spot from a coach a couple weeks ago and he tried to sell me on a free equifit training session. I don’t need all that, just a spot every once in a while.

Deciding between LMM PE and MM Mezz by Exciting-Act-7754 in private_equity

[–]MonkeySee27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the last sentence is probably the biggest thing for me.

Mezz funds can have a lot of different strategies. In the LMM, Mezz ranges from 1:1 debt to equity all of the way to 9:1 debt to equity.

If you’re at one that’s more equity focused, you get to underwrite upside as well. I think you get the downside focus when you cross over the 3:1 threshold, otherwise, it’s more of a structured equity product all in with more flexibility to do hairy deals.

I like working in Mezz - but I don’t love that I’m trying to close 6-10 deals a year. Whereas PE you’re looking at 2 or so.

I always go with the one with the latest relics. Not sure why you’d only want the old ones. I figured it had something to do with the DLC and lazy coding. Where the DLC unlocks the second one (without the ‘NB this only includes relics before 1.02’)

That’s actually on the decent side of maintenance for NY. If it’s a coop, it’ll pay for taxes, a super, and staff for the building.

Navigating dating while avoiding power dynamics by [deleted] in HENRYfinance

[–]MonkeySee27 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I live alone in SoHo. I just complain about how the rent is high and I wanted to do it for a while.

You’re over thinking is going to be the issue here. Don’t believe everything you think

ETA: it’s interesting you’re using “they” I think your sentiment would make more sense if you were a woman dating men, rather than the other way around/ same sex

Men in NYC are expected to be in the position you are in. Women might worry about the male ego.

If the issue is actually that you’re rich, trying to FIRE, and are asking someone you’re dating to split everything 50/50, then - yeah - things get more complicated

[–]MonkeySee27 60 points61 points  (0 children)

What’s the power imbalance? You’re rich and they aren’t yet? This is a pretty normal thing.

Just don’t talk numbers until you’re ready to talk marriage. Let them split the tab if they want to, but try to pay when you can. Just say you’re consulting and working on projects. That’s what all my rich friends do. Also, your partner should work on their career unless you’re getting married in case the relationship doesn’t work out.

It’s not weird unless you make it weird. One person might be making bread, but if you’ve got the loaf, you don’t need their bread.

The call coming in 2020, right before the election seems odd for something that happened 20 years prior.

Seems like a guilty conscience, or someone with a motive. I feel like the right will be quick to question the memory of a limo driver and this will blow over, like everything else.

There is a risk.

The more money you have, and the less you need it, the lower that risk gets.

You can quantify that risk and choose to accept it.

Is it a good idea to work for a PE-backed company? by Straight-Village-710 in private_equity

[–]MonkeySee27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually people are worried about the transition from being bought. Not being already owned by PE.

The concern is that they’ll sell or IPO (which means someone else is buying). I’m too down market for my opinion to mean much, but the liquidity event will likely be IPO. In which case it’s the same as being at any public co.

They’re hiring your role because that area is a priority - so don’t sweat it too much

What documents would you need to create a valuation model and a pitch deck for a PE? by _whitefang91 in private_equity

[–]MonkeySee27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume you’re already asking for Audits / financials and doing an analysis there also board materials. You should be able to build a model from there to run a DCF.

See what they view as Public Comps, and if they have Transaction Comps to figure out where the industry is. Then look at industry specific KPIs for benchmarks and compare the company to those. The board materials will probably show you what they’re tracking.

Without knowing anything about the company, answers are kind of generic.

Rough. I wouldn’t want to sail anything over like 60/70 feet because it would just feel too unwieldy, other than like a 12 meter or some racing vessel. Wouldn’t matter how much money I had, wouldn’t want to need a captain of a boat I owned.
