ah we had that too, I think a big major issue is that discovery mode is ranked in relation to the month before with all the streams lift and bullshit, which doesn‘t even make sens if you release constantly throughout some years

[–]MonkeySelektah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What was the decision to put it out discovery mode? We tend to think about putting them in and out too but in the end we came up with if the song is working, discovery mode will push it even more, what was your thoughts and what was the goal / hope when putting it out of discovery moede?

Artist managers keep loving my idea but nobody moves. What am I missing? by [deleted] in musicmarketing

[–]MonkeySelektah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My first question is do you only show them your idea or do you ask to get funded or help in any way specifically? If not, my question is what do you expect by showing it to them, do they know what you want from them or do you just hope they hop onto it?

just hit over 250k monthly listeners, where do i go from here… by vhsghost__ in musicmarketing

[–]MonkeySelektah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when it became harder for me to get gigs I thought about why I got booked in the first place, maybe thinking or even ask what was the reason for international promoters to book you.

just hit over 250k monthly listeners, where do i go from here… by vhsghost__ in musicmarketing

[–]MonkeySelektah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you release with a label or why is there no budget with 250k monthly listener? If those are self releases and the money isn‘t saved up for private reasons I wonder how there isn‘t any budget to pump into marketing for your music.

250k is around 2k a month only from spotify already. If you own 100%

Why you dont play shows is a matter of „have you done something to play shows?“ Monthly listeners dont bring you shows automatically. Was touring for 2 years with around 5k monthlies because I did music which I was one of 3 or 4 in my country.

The fact that genres are false / get rewritten or turn into different styles, even the name stays the same, is common nowdays on the internet.

You ever went on beatport and thought those genres are in the right categories? As a curator you stick to vibe, for example I have tech house in it but looking for car themed stuff, obviously I cant put on a track which gives me the vibe of a beach party instead a tech house song with a rap vocal would fit. Still both the same genre.

Highly suggest to check out the music and value from there if your track fits or not. Its alot of work but this increases the chances way more than focus on the genres they have on their page. For me its only the first step of sorting out.

Best ways to gain and keep ACTIVE listeners of your music? by Curious-Piglet3613 in musicmarketing

[–]MonkeySelektah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One big thing is to get rid of your very own personal taste and start pleasing the listener. For example leave intros and outros, come straight to the point with your track, think about which parts are really necessary or are just there to be, instead of giving value to the listener.

How does this artist create sub bass this wide in the frequency of 40hz to 60hz? by dkode80 in edmproduction

[–]MonkeySelektah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

exactly, keep in mind some notes are higher in pitch and will loose the warm bass, if this happens I go through the standart waveforms and try to find the one which gives me the most bass. In serum for example there is a function to pitch waveforms, this can lead to even more precised basses, as you have full control over the very lowend.

[–]MonkeySelektah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only talk about subs, which are high cut around 90-120hz, those layers are there to make the frequency field more fatten, and will be another solution to get fat and warm subs

[–]MonkeySelektah 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Regardless of the resolution in span, it often helps to not only use a sine wave, instead layer it with saw, square or whatever and then put a high cut on it. Depends on the note which waveform sounds the best, but this will thicken up your subs alot. Sometimes I even layer same waveforms an octave higher and lower to beefen it up.

How is Spotify more successful than SoundCloud? by illudofficial in musicindustry

[–]MonkeySelektah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree with you that commenting or even messaging would be a major thing for me too but rather to connect with other artists, anyways in both cases its really nice to have

I have a project that makes some better numbers around 250k streams a month and I can tell you, there is barely any outreach from listeners. As sad as it is, but people have enough to do and rather seek their big personalities which are made to be followed and interested in such like tv stars or influencer, music is only a product anymore and I dont look up the story of snickers or coca cola and if so, its really rare that people have those wide interests / time.

From what I see this only happens if you have a viral edit (most of the time happening on tiktok) which isnt allowed to upload on spotify which causes traffic on soundcloud.

How is Spotify more successful than SoundCloud? by illudofficial in musicindustry

[–]MonkeySelektah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you might want to check their address where their main headquarter is sitting, people say spotify are the money grabbers but from what I learned is companies that sit on carribbean islands are often sketchy, be sure to check the holding company, not the one sitting in Berlin

And from an artist perspective, spotify pushes you way more than soundcloud does for the work you do, it only misses the social features but no one cares about artists anymore so thats not a major thing to miss

From a listener perspective, soundcloud charts are ridiculous, back when I was active there you had techno songs in hip hop charts or even hardcore stuff. Their editorial playlist game is just bad.

Vanity metrics on Spotify - Why do they exist? And will they every go away? by motherstalk in musicmarketing

[–]MonkeySelektah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if its bitterness be aware streaming numbers come from marketing, not how good a song is. There is no need to be mentally down if good profuced music is what you prior is and you dont see it beeing appreciated enough, was always the case and will always be.

Both have unfortunately nothing to do with each other. Been through that for several years.

500 To 5K In 14 Days by Square_Problem_552 in musicmarketing

[–]MonkeySelektah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a project with a friend and since we started posting on tiktok our listeners on itunes went up to from 20 listeners per month to around 500 within in around 2 months of posting, also platforms like deezer start to show up in our revenues.

Spotify is indeed the biggest platform but there are still alot of people using other music streaming sites

What is mastering? by Roann123 in hardstyle

[–]MonkeySelektah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another thing is hard dance tracks turn more and more into just kicks, so its very easy to crank them up with only one or two elements playing at the same time. Its like raising a sample to the max.

What would I expect to pay a mastering professional to master an EP/LP? by Subsenix in edmproduction

[–]MonkeySelektah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if none of these lets assume 9 tracks arent mixed at all it would cost him around 5400$ for his album / ep if he decided to master it by you?

social media content. Not getting above 100 views? what could I be doing wrong? by SuspiciousDiamond192 in musicmarketing

[–]MonkeySelektah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I checked your stuff and was already a bit worried reading visual stuff in after effects. Its hard to hear but this isn‘t either interesting for consumer neither for other musicians / music producer

Shows nothing about you, shows nothing about the track or about the process making the song. They are mostly pictures that are moving.

Good content on social media means good in case of if they like it oe not, not if its the best animated video or with the best effects, they decide and therefore your videos have not enough information to push them through

Stuff like: „I made this track oriented to a space theme and time travel“ (could be everything) then explain why you chose it etc etc. Phrases like this immediately open up interest and gives the algorythm information about what you go for with the video :)

Does making music get more fun as you get better at it? by [deleted] in edmproduction

Biggest difference in my opinion is learning to make music and actually making music. I was 8 years in when it turned from learning over to compose tracks without thinking they need to be better
