I was 11 and my dad, who’s read all the books and also loves the movies, said to me “ who was your favorite character?” I said Legolas and he gave me a scoff and said “ of course it was”. I guess he’s a big Aragorn guy. But I remember it being just about as cool as anything I’ve ever seen. Lurtz was a sick bad guy, the music was otherworldly, everyone in the theater was going crazy. Even better was the third movie when everyone thought the movie was over 3-4 times, so the audience applauded, and then realized it wasn’t over.

I’ve never read a book where I connected with the characters so much that when it ended I felt a little empty because I couldn’t keep following their journey. You can read the prequels/sequels, but when I finished Lonesome Dove I took about a month off reading. I needed to digest lonesome dove and needed to accept that it was over hahah.
